Should the Volt come with a gun rack?

Sure, we're not unaware of the hype surrounding the Chevy Volt, but we're gonna keep writing about the Volt because, c'mon, look at what the hype is creating. While the line between hunter and environmentalist varies depending on whom you speak to (sometimes, a hunter will gladly embrace typically lefty, green causes; sometimes not. Sometimes a "environmentalist" - as they appear in our media - enjoys hunting, sometimes they hate it), it should be easy to understand the appeal that a greener world has to the hunting crowd (hint, it involves more animals to hunt on more pristine land).
So, with that lengthy intro out of the way, let's take a look at website AR15.com, a gun owners website ("home of the black rifle") and forum that Autoblog points out is "having an enlightening discussion about why the Volt hits their sweet spot." The AR15 community seems to shun the stereotypical environmentalist vehicles (cough, *Prius*, cough) and labels (they say to beware the "tree-huggin stump-humping global warming alarmist") but some really want a car like the Volt. That must be music to GM's ears. Now GM just needs to produce the darn thing.

I realize that it's still just a concept shell, and I know other people have sung the praises of the styling of the Volt, but as excited as I am to see the advance of the technology, I find that it looks like something out of an arcade game from 1996.
What happened to everything we've learned about aerodynamics? They couldn't make the nose of the car any blunter without blocking the driver's view forward. There's about 8-10" of unused (and uninteresting) space under the headlights and the grill that seems to have no function other than to require that more air get out of the way. How does that jibe with a car that's intended to reduce our energy use?
I guess we can chalk it up to Americans liking 'bold, masculine, aggressive looks' to their cars. That whole idea seems rather silly when more Hummers are driven by soccer moms than lumberjacks or cowboys.
I know most others I've read on this site disagree with me, but I just wanted to put in my $0.02.

I could have sworn this was posted once before.

I've posted before that the Volt concept design is overly macho - add a gun turret and it would fit perfectly in a Mad Max movie.
However, what most appeals to this gun group is that the E-Flex powerplant is nearly silent and has little or no emissions - great for sneaking up on prey. If GM made an E-Flex Tahoe or E-Flex Hummer, these guys would be ecstatic.

Hummers, gun racks. Do we need sun tan lotion on the back of our necks to keep them from turning red?

I guess I'm to picky but I prefer my autos to be visually appealing. It doesn't have to be super macho or sexy but it does have to look good. Its all in the eye of the beholder and well that being said I don't ever see myself driving a Prius unless some one pays me to, for example a rental on a business trip. If they change the styling to be more apealing like say a Volt or Tesla I'd do it. however if anyone really want me to drive a hybrid every day they better start ramping up the mid sized trucks. Because I love my 4x4 Tacoma. I don't think a Tesla, Volt or Prius would fair to well on some of the jeep trails I prefer to drive on in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.
Now if someone would take the Elec. Motor out of the Prius, put it in a Tacoma along side the v6 then install heliovolt Corp. type solar panels molded to the current shape of the roof and hood. I'd be all over the 4x4 version in a heartbeat.
Don't want the gun rack I prefer to keep my guns out of sight until they are required ;)
Mark.

Yes, is this the ONLY hybrid GM is building?
Would be nice if they had a smaller aero model too.

Same here. I believe strongly in CONCEALED carry (www.chl-tx.com).

To answer your question, Mike: No, the Volt isn't the only hybrid GM is working on. GM already has some hybrid models for sale, and are developing several others. Also, the Volt isn't the only plug-in hybrid GM is developing, they are working on a dual-mode plugin hybrid which just might reach market before the Volt.

"Do we need sun tan lotion on the back of our necks to keep them from turning red?"
Heck, no! After enough sun, who needs sunblock anymore? ;)
Truly though, it's a good sign that so many types of folks can agree on green things. Motives might be different for everybody, but we might just be reaching the tipping point.
By the way, messages about preserving habitat and wilderness play better than you might think amongst us more sunburnt types. Ever wonder why we don't mind paying so much for hunting and fishing licenses? It's because we know what that money funds: preservation of habitat and protection and good management of wilderness.

That is the stupidest article ever written on this site GM is the reason for all the automotive global warming and putting one concept out that might be "fuel efficent" does not make up for their damages they should stop trying to milk it and do everyone a favor and stop producing vehicles entirely beacuse they suck at it and should just accept the fact that everything they make is just cheap shit that one wants.... who the fuck puts wheel covers on a "luxury car" besides cadilac
