Frankfurt Preview: Another rendition of the VW City Expert
A few days ago we showed you a speculative rendering of the VW City Expert concept that will be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show that was generated by German magazine Focus. Another pair of images have now turned up on Autoblog.it (no relation to us or sister site Autoblog) that appears to have come from another German language publication. While the styling of the first car was an evolution of some of the current VW themes, this new design is more akin to the original Beetle and seems more in keeping with the layout and intent of the car. It seems more like the true heir to the Type 1 than the New Beetle ever did. What do you think?

I really hope this is not it. The hood is too sharp instead of bulbous. The roof is too tall and top heavy. I can't understand why they would go RWD since it would cut down on the useful cargo space. The car show here woudl have plenty of room for an engine.

Well, there is just something cool about rear engine. It's an interesting concept.

I like the Beetle-ish headlights and bumper.

Since the current New Beetle will not continue on the Golf platform, and given the success of the Fiat 500, look for the new VW city car to take styling cues from the Beetle and capitalize on the goodwill of the image.

this version with the high headlamps is very attractive a la French cars and the new Cinquecento. if there is a case for a rear engine (no need for power steering nor CV joints) then a compact 3 cylinder preferably 4 valve per cylinder VR3 - could be set so low or tilted that there can be access to groceries, luggage, fold forward rear seat from the rear a la VW typ 111 long since gone - and like it - a boot in the front as well. VW can do it but perhaps on cost not in Deutschland nor (as with the failed Smart at Hambach near Saarbrucken - in Western Europe - not even perhaps in Portugal. VW is quality in design, build, long life, and resale value in Australia.
