Video: candidate shows off Berlingo EV in campagn video
Quentin Gargan, Green Party candidate for Cork South West, shows off his Electric Berlingo, which can go 60 mph and gets 60 mpg equivalent, in a recent campaign video.
In the video, Gargan talks about California's zero emission mandate and the response by the car companies. He says car companies made electric cars and lobbied for change. When the mandate was overturned, they crushed the electric cars. His point is when government shows leadership, the technology follows and viable solutions appear.
Gargan also says fuel prices are rising, something that will only get worse. To fight the trend, we need to radically overhaul our transport system with trains, buses, clean car and bike paths. He says other parties have taken on Green Party issues because the Green Party is rising in the polls but they cannot be trusted. Gargan is a political candidate driving an EV charged by a wind turbine. How cool is that?

No government grants here unfortunately!! :(
That ad is from 4 years ago and I'm pretty sure there are no new examples available (roll on the Cleanova!). There's one going on Ebay for £3k (ends in 3 and a bit hours):

Scatter- The cool thing here is that this person is going gree WITHOUT resorting to steeling tax money from his friends and neighbors. It's HIS choice and he doesn't ask others to pay for it.

Cork is Ireland, not the UK.

Stealing? What on earth are you talking about?
What I meant was that there aren't any grants for EVs available in the UK any more. The carpages site linked to above is very out of date.
I'm not exactly sure what the situation is in Ireland but if I remember right, hybrids qualify for reduced (half?) sales tax there so I guess it's likely that EVs qualify for that as well. Is that theft too? Whether it's a grant or a tax discount, they're both subsidies. Just think of those thousands of Euros from that sales tax break not going to build our hospitals and educate our children! Disgusting!
The fact is that most (but not all) environmentally friendly products are very expensive and they will need some help to build demand (baring some massive technological breakthrough). All this talk of "don't interfere, let the market sort things out" is not working.

I removed UK. I assumed it was still being made. I updated with it stopped production. Thanks.
