Engadget asks: How would you improve the Segway?

Our gadget-obsessed pals over at Engadget want to know what you think of the Segway, or rather, how you would improve it. GM thinks it's a good idea to store them in the Opel Flextreme. I have been saying that the biggest problem about the Segway is the price. Would you agree? I think that if you break down the components inside the machine, it just doesn't add up. But, in this day and age of lawsuits, perhaps the insurance that the company must carry is prohibitively expensive. Who knows? Anyway, if you have an idea on how to make the Segway better, head on over to Engadget and post your thoughts in their comments. And feel free to post them here as well, I'd be interested to know what our readership in particular has to say!

By scrapping it. The reason Segway has been a dismal failure is because there are no particular advantages and very few applications for a mode of travel that's slower than a bicycle and faster than walking.
I disagree that price is the main issue here. There have been low-priced alternatives and they sell just as poorly. The problem, as I mentioned above, is utility. Which everyday uses of Segway do you forsee for the general public where walking or cycling is disadvantageous to Segway?

More laser canons.
Also, I love the ZUNE banner adds. Comical.

I have to disagree with Manu and say price really is the main problem. And there is a market for devices that are faster than walking and take a lot less effort than bicycling. There are all kinds of electric scooters out there for under a thousand bucks. Some of those can be as fast as bicycling. Especially uphill.

Sell it and use the money to buy a bicycle. Actually, buy about 5 bicycles since a Segway costs $5000.
With a 12.5 mph top speed and 24 mile range in a 100 lb package, to me the Segway has never been a compelling alternative to a bicycle. I'm just not prepared to give up that much performance just to keep from having to exert myself.
