Frankfurt Preview: Biodiesel Mustang endurance racer

While the car pictured above looks like an average racing Ford Mustang that competes in many classes, it's anything but. Racing 'Stangs typically run with big gasoline fueled V-8 engines but the BioConcept Mustang GT RTD has something completely different. Propulsion for this racer comes from a 2.0L turbo-diesel four cylinder putting out 280hp and 369 lb-ft of torque fueled by B100 biodiesel.

That compares to 300 hp and 320 lb-ft from the 4.6L gas V-8 in the stock Mustang GT. The German FourMotor team prepared the car and has already run it in the Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race earlier this summer. The steel body panels of the car were also replaced with plastic duplicates reinforced with natural plant fibers that were developed by the German center for air and space travel.
