Video: Porsche Cayenne Hybrid in action
We reported the other day that Audi was planning to introduce a hybrid version of the Q7 SUV next year. The hybrid power-train was co-developed with corporate partners Volkswagen and Porsche. The Q7s platform mates the Touareg, and Cayenne will both use the hybrid setup as will the Porsche Panamera. A video has now appeared of prototype Cayenne hybrids in action and it also includes some animation of power flows in the system in various operating modes. You can check out the video after the jump

The parade of ridiculous hybrids continues. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that auto makers are putting so much energy into greener technologies - but let's be honest about it. They're doing it because consumers want to feel better about buying their behemoths, and these hybrid SUVs aren't exactly fuel efficient.

Agreed.
The hybrid version could start with "Just" a 200 hp V6.
I've driven an SUV with 200hp, you can STILL easily drive insanely with 200hp, and kill youself. You don't need 300hp to drive on today's roads.
But, yes, a hybird Porsche would be nice.

I've been exclusively a Porsche owner for over 25 years. But times have changed.
This hybrid is a fine first step to stay in business from what has been a great 20th Century company. However, given their CO2 bad press in Europe, slow adoption of corporate green responsibility, the question is will they be able to move fast enough as the market demand rapidly shifts? Hope so, but unfortunately just not fast enough for me.
As much as I would love a new C2S, it would be very bad form to drive one in Seattle these days, where I live. Kind of viewed as killing the last Polar Bear.
Interesting that GM may be the one in the 21st Century to dominate the green sports car market. The young leaders there "get it." Hope the CEO at Porsche is not too late to the party, preventing Porsche from becomeing an elegant, but obsolete, TRex.
I'd love to be driving a fast, hip, electric Porsche.

Firstly, 200hp does not make for good driving in a large vehicle.
I have owned a Cayenne since launch in 2003, and currently have the latest turbo version (500+hp).
Judging by the first 2 comments opinions will be poles apart and the debate frankly is not worth having. I will, therefore, be only forthcoming with my personal thoughts. I enjoy driving, have 3 children and can justify a large car, even at £1.05($2.10) per litre. I would however buy a hybrid car, not the Toyota 'PIUS' kind, but a decent performing Porsche would be great.
Add this to being able to avoid the £25 per day congestion charge in London and it's a winner!
