Project Gotham Racing 4 to feature an "Electric Vs. Petrol Showdown"!
Project Gotham Racing 4 is truly shaping up to be an awesome game for us Tesla Roadster lovers out there! We've brought you footage of the Tesla Roadster racing for the video game, and now tipster Kardax let us know about a cool new feature which is being built into the game. According to their official website, Bizarre Creations, the maker of the game, says that there is an event "called the "Electric Vs Petrol Showdown": [where] you take the wheel of a two-seater, silent, electric sportscar (the Tesla Roadster) and face-off against a gas-guzzling, noisy, mean machine (the Ferrari Testarossa)."
So, for all of us mere mortals who are likely never going to get a chance to drive a Tesla Roadster, let alone race against a Ferrari in one, Bizarre has got us covered!

oh they do tease. I'm trying to save money not spend it. Halo 3 plus facing off people in a Tesla Roadster in PGR4 does make it mighty tempting to just go out and get an Xbox 360.

For the vast majority of PGR4 players, this event will be their first exposure to a high-performance EV. Not many people would have thought such a thing possible a few years ago.
The fact that a car can be fast _and_ efficient will be a revelation for tens of thousands of players around the world :)

A tesla may beat a ferrarri in a drag race, but it only has 240hp, not enough to win a race. Unless the lotus chassis is more agile than I think it is.

It'd be interesting if they built in an endurance race component where the Ferrari would run out of gas and the Tesla run out of juice in quasi-real world scenarios. Problem is that Ferrari probably gets more than 250 miles on a tank, but maybe not.

The winner would depend a lot on the type of race, and to a lesser degree the skill of the drivers.
For a quarter mile drag race the Tesla wins easily - better acceleration and only two gears. To get the best performance in the Ferarri requires precisely timed and perfectly executed shifts through all the multiple gears, and even then the acceleration is less.
Short and medium length races on winding tracks or ovals also favors the Tesla - better acceleration in the straight sections, highly manuverable, regenerative braking before entering the curves, and only two gears to worry about.
The only races favoring the Ferarri would be long races on straight tracks (Ferarri has higher top speed) and races over 200 miles with pit stops (faster refueling).

Kardax:
High performance EVs have been possible for quite some time.
Look at the AC Propulsion T Zero. It has a lot in common with the Tesla Roadster. Both are high performance in very short bursts. Both carry only two people and are thus incredibly impractical.
Gordio:
This HP war is a recent thing. A Testarossa was from the 80s and didn't actually have all that much power (380HP). It's just not a great performer by modern standards. The 512TR (which looks just like the Testarossa) fared a lot better.
I'm guessing you aren't driving these cars on the N-ring, and thus HP isn't super critical and the Tesla will win.
Otherwise, to be honest, it wouldn't even be in the game.

why not the LS2/LS7?: I know that, but I guarantee 99.994% of PGR4 players have never heard of any EV sports cars. That's what I was saying.
Chris M: I agree with your comparison of the cars. The Testarossa has a higher top speed, but otherwise the Tesla has everything going for it. Both cars are considered "E" class in the game, which implies that this event will come up relatively early, before the difficulty really kicks up :)

You're all forgetting something. You have to compare the Tesla with a performance petrol car of the same price range, not a car built in the 1980's. For more than 20K less, you can compare the Tesla to the Lotus Exige (same body as the Tesla) and you would have more range, about equal acceleration, and better cornering due to lack of heavy batteries. Give li-ion technology another at least another 6 years before it can match the price of ICE.
