Nissan to build an EV by 2010 with tech from Mixim concept

Nissan's European product boss Pierre Loing has told BusinessCar that the company plans to introduce a production electric car in Japan by the end of the decade. The car will use some of the technology at the heart of the Mixim concept that was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week. The new EV will be based on the SuperMotor design which has an electric motor driving each of the axles getting energy from a lithium ion battery pack. So far there is no word on what the configuration of the new car will be or if it will derive it's styling from the concept.

jcwinnie- There are so many manufacturers singing in the "EV Chorus" that we no longer have no reason to doubt Nissan's claims. Now, their final products capabilities and price (marketability) are another matter as they are constrained by the availability of competitive technologies.
In general, all the market has to do is keep screaming for these products, and the manufacturers will trip over each other to offer what we want in exchange for our money. They know if they don’t take our money, someone else will. After all, we are much better as squandering that saving.

So from japanese:
Subaru R1e
Mitsubishi MiEV
Nissan Mixim.
The small city commuter cars ( often second cars in europe, the likes of current Ka, Micra, Getz ) will be EVs in future. Makes perfect sense.
