Greenspan on ethanol: it'll play a limited role
Alan Greenspan is getting a lot of press because of his opinions on Bush. Last year, when Alan Greenspan was still fed chair, he said a few things about ethanol in testimony. He says corn ethanol will play "only a limited role." Greenspan contends corn ethanol's "ability to displace gasoline is modest at best." Greenspan continues "I'd like to see us move quickly to determine whether cellulosic is feasible." Greenspan thinks we can push alternatives so that "oil in the years ahead will remain an important element of our energy future, but" ... "no longer be the dominant player." [Source: Washington Post]

If you REALLY must to use corn or wood for energy, why waste all that energy by distilling alcohol? Here is MUCH more efficient use of these carbon neutral renewable fuel sources. http://www.cornheat.com/corn_boiler.html

By carbon nuetral, you must mean "not carbon nuetral" right?
How in the hell do you think they grow corn?
Corn is practically a solid form of fossil methane.

Corn is the largest natural gas consuming plant grown in the US.

That is NOT "carbon nuetral".

Did the headline writer actually read the item? Greenspan was commenting specifically on corn ethanol. He appeared to be quite sanguine about cellulosic ethanol. That is where the greater opportunity lies - as he indicated...
