North American Chrysler vehicles to get more diesel options
In an interview with the Windsor Star, Chrysler Canada CEO Reid Bigland talked about expanding the availability of diesel engines in the company's lineup. Currently Chrysler offers diesels in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Ram HD and Sprinter van. A new Cummins diesel will definitely be added to the new light-duty Ram pickups in 2009. The 3.0L Mercedes-sourced V-6 diesel in the Grand Cherokee may also be added to other models. It's already used in the Chrysler 300 in Europe and could easily be added here next year after the BlueTec version comes out. The new 2.2L four-cylinder diesel in the latest Mercedes C-Class is also being considered for North American applications. [Source: Chrysler]

A Chrysler 300 or maybe a Dodge Caliber with a diesel would be sweet.

Dodge Caliber/Jeep Patriot diesel FTW! For their size and weight, they get fair fuel economy. Think of one with a good diesel! Though I don't know that the rubber bands they use in them now could handle a diesel's torque. And of course getting anything good out of the junk-pushers at Stuggart.

I'm not trying to start another diesel=good/bad debate, but recently, I've been reading headlines about diesels going through the roof again.
While gasoline averages have dropped and stabilized (for now...) at around $2.78 national average, but national average for diesel is around $3.04 now. North Dakota is reporting diesel shortages due to high demand (harvesting time) and downed refineries.
Diesel was very cheap compare to gasoline earlier this year, but who knew it'd spike so fast...

If you can get your hands on waste vegetable oil (make sure to dewater & filter down to 1 micron), you can make your own biodiesel for under $1/gallon.
