It's Friday: $300,000 car with solar panels in the roof

Our millionaire readers must be upset with the lack of luxury, green cars. Do they have to degrade their standards and settle for the paltry Lexus hybrid? There are many promised green, luxury cars and we are keeping on top of the news but until then, for your consideration, we offer the Maybach 57 and 62. The Maybach has 30 solar cells in the roof that supplies 63 watts of electricity that powers the air conditioning system fan, cooling the car 15 degrees in the hot sun.
Don't confuse the solar panel with liquid crystal sun roof that turns clear at the touch of a button. That's just one of the 2 million equipment options of the $300,000 Maybach. There is a video below the fold with the meeting you must have to configure your car. Check the couch for change and pick one up so you will have something to mention to Al Gore at the Nobel after-party.

i would be interested to see who would turn down a $300k maybach for a hybrid lexus ls hybrid if bother were offered them for free. heck, forget 'free', how about just get to use for a day. oh screw that even, how about test drive. which car would you want to test drive if you could only test drive one. my bet is that most would choose the maybach. i have driven the lexus ls AND i have driven the 57 maybach. there is NO comparison in ride, comfort and overall driver experience.
comparing a lexus ls to a maybach is total apples to oranges. the maybach's pv panels are not meant to be more 'green', they are meant to help not drain the battery as the climate control keeps the interior cooler than the outside warmer temps.
i have never ever read where maybachs were trying to be green. the only green i see are from those who turn their nose up at it (reading from the comments) that the price is high and/or they couldnt afford it by justifying their reasons.
i would agree that if you have to ask about gas mileage on the maybach, you probably shouldnt be considering buying one. my friends with ferrari's do not ask about fuel economy when buying and i am more than certain that those purchasing a maybach are in the same boat.

Good point.By using 30 solar cells in the roof, it can supplies 63 watts of electricity that powers the air conditioning system fan and cool the car 15 degrees in the hot sun,its great. In near future we can see using solar energy we can drive our cars and will help from day by day increase in fuel price.
Thanks,

But what's the gas mileage?
I know, if you have to ask...

Mike, If you can buy this car, you probably own an oil company, so I guess you can just pick it up free at work :D

This is filed under BMW? Maybach is made by Mercedes, isn't it?

The high end Lexus hybrids are mounting a stiff challenge to Maybach, offering many of the same features (like reclining rear seats) at a better price, but getting somewhat better milage thanks to the hybrid powerplant.
Still, I'm glad I don't drive a gas guzzling ultra-luxury car, it means associating with the most stuck-up, full-of-themselves people on earth!

Thats great and all, but I used to have a 1999 Audi A6 with that very same feature (part of the warm weather package, included a sun roof with solar panels that would vent the car while sitting in a parking lot, and that car was only in the low to mid forties... it didn't run the compressor, but the maybach isn't the first "real world" car to have solar power.
