Video of Tom Hanks driving his electric Scion xB
Recently, I posted a Myspace video of Tom Hank driving his eBox, a Scion xB converted to run on electricity. That video is no longer working but I found Tom Hanks' MySpace page with the video, so now you can watch it below the fold. Tom also has a video introducing his MySpace page and a trailer for his newest movie, Charlie Wilson's War, which opens December. While I have the chance, I totally think the new Scion xB's less-boxy look is a step in the wrong direction. I liked the early, boxier version that everyone hated. A video review of the new Scion xB is also below the fold.

I have a 2006 XB. I hope it's the last car I ever have to buy. When the warranty is over, and the motor is wearing out, I too will convert mine to electric. I'd do it sooner if I could afford to. Can you imagine doing a conversion that would change your car to fully electric, and put some solar panels on your roof? Goodbye fuel and heating bills. Goodbye tune-ups. Goodbye to almost all moving parts. Can you imagine a car where the only maintenance are the tires, the wheel bearings, the suspension, and the brakes? Say hello to a new era in comfortable, economical, non-polluting personal transportation!

why not the LS2/LS7? 2:29PM (10/22/2007)
The new Scion is awful. Wrong direction, I agree. It's now too smooth to look distinctive and too boxy to look good as a regular style.

Totally agree with your assessment. I might like the new one better if it weren't so much less efficient. They could have put a slightly more powerful engine in the first gen xB, from what I've read, but there's just no excuse for what they did.

The new Scion xB design is laughable. The sloped hard lined roof? haha. They tried way to hard too move in the same direction and actually went in the wrong direction. They ruined that whole model lineup now as the xB is rediculously horrible.

While AC Propulsion can continue converting old XBs for awhile longer, I wonder what they plan for in the future. Rumour is that they are researching other models for possible conversion work. I'm hoping they will be able to get "gliders" (chassis without engines) direct from a manufacturer, which will help lower the cost.

Chris, 7. They told me when I talked to them openly. So, rumor confirmed :D
AC Propulsion, the people behind the eBox conversion, is talking to seven companies to give them gliders (car without the engine and junk) so the conversions can be a lot cheaper.

I agree with the new xB assessment. Same with the xD, formerly the xA. I loved the xA, in fact, I got a 2006, and am very happy with it. It was distinctive, just like the xB. It makes me sad what they've done. =(
One a side note, that is totally awesome what he did with his. Once my warranty is up, I'm going for that conversion kit too.
