Alt Car Expo 2007: Vectrix Scooter smiles for the ABG camera (VIDEO)
We have already told you all about the $11,000, NiMH-powered two-wheeled all-electric scooter from Vectrix. Now, why not take a closer look at this zero-emission vehicle with a 68-mile range and 62 mph top speed. We caught up with Vectrix at the Santa Monica Alt Car Expo, and I've gotta admit, they look like a lot of fun to use as a daily commuter, especially in warmer, drier climates. For that price, though, this isn't going to be a spur-of-the-moment purchase for most people. Still, would one of these fit well in your garage/budget/lifestyle?

I am going to sell electric scooters with top speed of 60MPH with regen brake. The bike has 3500w motor and Lithium power. If anyone interested I am selling the first batch of perordered bikes for $3495.00. Price will be going up somewhat on later orders. You can buy 3 for the same price as a Vectrix.
Cheers,

You didn't get a ride? I don't have my motorcycle license, so I've only gotten a ride on the back of one, but I was impressed.

$11,000 for a scooter with a 40-60 miles range (from the rep in the video)? I think I'll pass thank you.

There is a rumour out there that the price may be coming down somewhat in the Spring.

Cars in India will be $3000 a pop, so I guess paying $20k for a car in US is outrageous, right? The point is that not all scooters are "scooters" and Vectrix is comparable to maxi-scooter class.

Nice bike, worth the premium price. I am not ready to spend that type of money yet. I have ordered a EVT America (R-20) all electric scooter that goes up to 45mph for 2K. The down side are the SLA battery that probably will need replaceing in less then 2 years for $500. If, I like going electric, I will save up for the Vectrix. The bike should be here in less then a month I will forward video to your site here. Phil

Sounds like the company is going to hit the skids..despite raising over $100M last year (after 10 yrs of ups/downs). Here is a link to their public announcement of results for their 1st year as a traded stock. Despite ramping up to produce 1700+ bikes and spending mucho bucks on marketing, they have only sold 68 bikes so far and they are pulling out of the Italian market which is the biggest bike market in the world. They had been projecting 5000 bikes this year. With only $30M cash left and a stock price that has sunk over 80% since going public in May of '07, and at their appetite for money, they won't even last another year.
