California couple develop a waterless car wash system
The case of Lisa and Jeff Peri is certainly no the first time that Necessity is the mother of invention: their young daughter was chronically sick suffering from a variety of ailments and the couple ultimately discovered that she was allergic to a variety of cleaning chemicals. It turned out that car wash detergents were among the most troublesome agents for their daughter so they set about finding a hypoallergenic alternative. When they couldn't find a waterless cleaner that wouldn't irritate their daughter, they decided to create their own and market it. They worked with a chemist to create a non-sensitive waterless car wash that became available on-line last June. Green Earth Waterless Car Wash is now being used by a large Lexus dealer and a local hospital. The original car wash spray has now been joined by a car seat cleaner and a tire cleaner. Given the drought conditions in many parts of the country, waterless product like this could be a real hit. There's a town in Tennessee that has run out of water and is probably interested.

I just found a product called Ultra Luster Waterless Car Wash that does not leave the chemical fallout that you would get from other products when you use water. You pump, spray, wipe and buff and it puts a protective glaze on your vehicles surface without scratching anything. Aerosol cans are not green. It saves 100-200 gallons of water with each use. It can be sprayed anywhere and does not leave any residue on the vehicles surface. It is very popular down in South Florida with all of our water restrictions. If you would like more info email me at reneemarielewis@yahoo.com.

Has anyone heard of ecowash mobile car wash and detailing service? I heard it is very popular in Australia.I heard it cleans, polishes and protects your cars paint. Has anyone tried this service? If so, what did you think?

How close was the daughter getting to the car wash materials? Doesn't seem like something the average person comes in contact with unless your talking about interior cleaners and a damp cloth is usually a good enough substitute.
There are other waterless car washes available (and have been for a long time). I guess this is the first to have green in the name.
Not sure I'm following the newsworthiness of this story.
Google: "waterless car wash" product = ~67,000 pages.

Spray-on, wipe-off waterless car wash product works pretty well on flat painted surfaces. Not so well on the other areas - like when you spray it on the hood and it gets into the vent area around the wipers, or in the grill where you can't quite get in to wipe it off. Then it dries up to a dirty little crust. I found it to be a less than satisfying experience. Who knows, maybe the newer stuff is better.

I agree Chris, how does their daughter come in contact so often with car cleaning chemicals that it is causing an allergic reaction? I can understand all-purpose household sprays...but car washing? Besides, which ingredient(s) caused the reaction in regular soaps and what did they put in their product to make it 'green' as opposed to the many other waterless car wash products on the market today?

Their is a big difference from washing your car with waterless technologies, in my 13 years operating with this method using Dry Washn Guard i have been able to develop a skill to address all issues that may occur as some surfaces need to be handled with care while using waterless techs.
I embrace any idea or product or serice that is designed to save millions of gallons of water per car wash!
Now the question is, how long do the individual brands last as a polish is there a long term benefit to the finished product on a vehicle as with Dri Wash. I will be testing and comparing as I have with the Amsoil alternative that is in my opinion far inferior to Dri Wash.

I already tested all the waterless car washes products and found nowet the best. That is why I became a distributor for them. You have to try it to believe it. It is cheaper than a car wash. It is so much easier than washing by hand with soap and water. Too bad Americans are not waking up to the fact we are running out of water!

There are many companies that market waterless carwash products, some very good and some not so good. I will put Ultra Luster up against any out there because: Spray-Wipe-Buff is very easy whether super hot or wet surface plus it blackens textured plastics and rubber trim and no overspray while detailing you car. Also great opportunity if your looking. ultraluster.com/ultra1

This product is NOT a "TRUE GREEN" product. It does not meet the criteria to be a "GREEN" product. It is a re-branded,relabeled product that has been around for a number of years.

I can also attest to the efficacy of waterless car washes. There are many great products that are doing great things for the environment.
I think the question at hand is: Since they are all saving hundreds of gallons of water a month, which are the best and add valued protection for your vehicle. Make sure that your waterless car wash has a carnauba wax or some other kind of protective property. Without this, the entire process is counter productive.
Also consider the application, is it in a spray bottle, or aerosol? I personally like the consistency of aerosol. Does it have to be mixed, pumped, shaken or any extra steps, this means that it is at least a two part mixture which may separate half way through a detail.
