Rumor: Chinese automaker FAW to release hybrid based on Mazda 6

FAW, a Chinese automaker that builds and sells the Prius in China, may release a hybrid Besturn sedan (Bentung is based on the Mazda 6) at a cost of 250,000rmb (33,532.75 US dollars). Recently, we told you about another Chinese car maker showing off a hybrid and how China is making bold moves to support cleaner fuels. We asked will electric cars be common place in China before the US? Should we be asking the same about hybrid cars?

The population of China is increasing at a rapid space. Thus it is difficult to meet the requirement of fuel . So my view is that electric cars will become more popular in China than US.

Does the $33k mean the car would sell here for $33k or is that just equal value thing? $33k for any car is very high, then factor in that it's a Chinese made car which ONLY means reliabililty is questionable as is it's lead content.

Rick, I don't know. I would guess the cost for China without shipping to US. If it's allowed in the US? It could also mean Mazda is doing something. I don't think Mazda would allow a hybrid version of their car to exist over seas and not in the US... would they?
