Volkswagen UK sells out of 2007 Bluemotion vehicles
Just Auto (free registration req'd) says that Volkswagen UK has sold out of Bluemotion vehicles for 2007. VW delivered only 300 of these cleaner "conventional" (i.e., non-hybrid) VWs to the UK since they went on sale in October. Thus far, only the Polo is available in a Bluemotion version in the UK, but more models will be coming in the next six months. The Polo Bluemotion's low number of CO2 grams emitted per kilometer driven, 99, is a big plus in the UK, where the car is exempt from the road tax and also avoids the London congestion charge. For 2008, VW told Just Auto they hope to sell close to 8,000 Bluemotion vehicles in the UK. While that's quite an increase, it's still a small, small number when you consider that VW sells about 200,000 vehicles in the UK each year.

...that number seems to be limited by supply, not by demand. At least in Germany, you really need some patience if you order a Bluemotion.
They do look quite attractive though:
Passat Bluemotion sedan mpg: 35 city, 56 highway
Passat Bluemotion wagon mpg: 35 city, 54 highway
Polo Bluemotion mpg: 48 city, 74 highway
They will make a Bluemotion model of everything they have.

It doesn't escape the congestion charge quite yet but it will when they change the rules next year.
It's a shame (although not surprising) thatn VW have manufactured so few. It's caught them some great press but will they follow the headlines up with serious production runs?

I don't know about 300 or 3000 or 300000 but I do know that for sure they could sell 1 if they ever bring it to the US.
