Volkswagen UK sells out of 2007 Bluemotion vehicles

Just Auto (free registration req'd) says that Volkswagen UK has sold out of Bluemotion vehicles for 2007. VW delivered only 300 of these cleaner "conventional" (i.e., non-hybrid) VWs to the UK since they went on sale in October. Thus far, only the Polo is available in a Bluemotion version in the UK, but more models will be coming in the next six months. The Polo Bluemotion's low number of CO2 grams emitted per kilometer driven, 99, is a big plus in the UK, where the car is exempt from the road tax and also avoids the London congestion charge.

For 2008, VW told Just Auto they hope to sell close to 8,000 Bluemotion vehicles in the UK. While that's quite an increase, it's still a small, small number when you consider that VW sells about 200,000 vehicles in the UK each year.
