2010 Ford Expidition to get new diesel V-8
Ford has already confirmed that, like GM and Chrysler, they are working on a new diesel V-8 for their next-generation light-duty pickup trucks that are due out in late 2008 (as 2009 models). It's now being reported that the new 4.4L V-8 will also find a home in the next version of the Expedition. Since Ford has no equivalent of GM's Two-mode hybrid system, they will need something to boost the mileage of their big SUVs. With the current Expedition rated at a mere 12 mpg in the city, they need all the help they can get.

Attention small-wee-wee...........some of us actually use the large cargo area of these vehicles on a regular basis. I have a 2002 Expedition, and when I get another, I will get the extended version. I find the Expedition very useful. I have brought home at least a ton of firewood in it, and I fill it up with model airplanes and hang a motorcycle on the back when I go to a big contest. Sure, it was expensive when gas was 4 bucks a gallon, but I drove my 15 yr old Miata instead of the Expedition when I could. I only put about 8-9000 miles per year on my Ford, so I really don't care what it costs to drive. If I drive 55-60 mph, I routinely get 20-21 miles per gallon.
I am not interested in living in a place where someone like you can tell me what I have to buy, thank you very much.

I have a 2003 expedition that I bought new and I think it is the most versatile car or truck you can own. It has 120,000 miles and I have only done routine maintenance that is listed in the service manual. I plan on keeping this forever, and is worth every drop of gas it sucks up.

Well, actually the rest of us are familiar with the laws of supply and demand. As long as people want to buy them (YOU can tell them they don't NEED them), Ford or Toyopta will moare thatn happy to supply them. Just look at the Honda Accord Hybrid. Regardless of the opinions that it was a poor application of great technology, the lack of demand lead to end of the supply. Oh and the high profit margins allow Ford (or Toyota) to develop and sell at a reasonable price hybrids and other expensive technologies that save gas and take up 1/3 the space on the road.

#3: The Dagenham V6 is very well suited for the US. The GM VM Motori V6 with its internal EGR as well. Other VM Motori I3 and I4 were already "Made in USA" by Detroit Diesel -- for export to South Korea where they were installed in Hyundais.

#3, At present Detroit is focusing on diesels for the full size light duty trucks. At this time there has been little talk of passenger car diesels.
Most of the product planning for alternatives to gas engines in cars have revolved around hybrids.
I suspect that all the manufacturers will be watching to see how well the upcoming VW and Honda diesels sell. If they gain acceptance then you're likely to see more diesel offerings.
