Labor Party wins Australian election, moves to enforce Kyoto
After reaffirming a commitment to provide incentives for hybrid vehicle development in Australia, Kevin Rudd and his party soundly won this weekend's election. The new Prime Minister's first moves on Sunday were to examine how to go about having Australia ratify the Kyoto Protocol on greenhouse gas reduction. Rudd has already accepted an invitation from Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's for a meeting in Bali in December to make plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It will be interesting to watch what, if any, policy changes the new government makes with regard to the Australian auto industry. Companies like Ford and GM-Holden still produce mainly larger rear wheel drive cars in the country and Holden even has engineering responsibility for GM's Zeta rear-drive platform that will be used for the new Pontiac G8 sedan and the Chevrolet Camaro. While Rudd has promised incentives for development of more efficient vehicles, it's unknown if the new government will do anything to try and influence demand for such vehicles. ...And they got it. The "conservative" party failed to do any conserving, so it got replaced by a party that will. Hmm, reminds me of the US in 2006...

It is good to know that liberals are the same the world over - dumb. Unfortunately their dumbness is expensive and dangerous. If you are a liberal please do not reply to my comments. You will be wasting my time.

Chris M, Yep and the new US congress has done nothing but increase pork spending and break every campaign promise. What did you expect? The Democratic-Socialists and the Neocons are but 2 wings of the very same elitist bird, a creature which only cares about feathering its own nest with our blood, sweat and tears.
We need term limits and FULL disclosure of all campaign contributions.

Tim, may I point out that Clinton managed to balance the budget and even achieved a budget surplus, while for the first 6 years of the Bush administration, with a Republican congress larding on the pork and Bush signing all of it, the deficit hit record highs and the national debt nearly doubled! So, just where does this myth of "Fiscally Responsible Republicans" come from?
A "tax and spend" liberal may be bad, but a "borrow and spend" conservative is far worse, as interest payments will more than double the cost to taxpayers.

I agree. Bush and the elitist Neocons in the house and senate totally ignore "We the People" much the same way the elitist Democrats have since they were elected.
Remember, it was Clinton who left the barn door open so the trade center could be destroyed. He had multiple opportunities to take care of Osama and instead he hid under his desk in the Oval Office with his intern girl “friends”.

Tim, stop trying to rewrite history. Clintion did order a cruise missle strike on a known AlQuaida base, and asked a Republican dominated congress for permission to launch a full scale military action - but Congress turned him down. The far right accused him of "wagging the dog", launching a war to distract everyone from his sex scandal. We now know that many of those Republicans were also involved in their own sexual indiscretions, the hypocrits.
Clinton was guilty of some scandalous behavior, but that was nowhere near as scandalous as those who thought prosecuting a president over a minor misbehavior was more important than fighting a major threat to the US.
