Will BMW re-inflate the bubble? New Isetta may be on the way!

Long before cars got Smart, there were tiny bubble cars made by BMW and others. Back in the 1950s when Germany was still recovering from World War II, BMW built the two seat, one-door Isetta. That single door was on the front of the car and hinged on the driver side. As new European CO2 emissions standards approach, the Munich brand is looking for more efficient models to help offset the thirstier performance cars in their lineup and the Isetta could be revived. Modern safety standards would obviously put the kibosh on the front door, but the styling would likely draw inspiration from the original. Like its rivals from Smart and Volkswagen (in the form of the up!) the new Isetta would probably retain the rear engine layout of the original. [Source: AutoExpress]

I noticed a very interesting new-generation Isetta at the Detroit Auto Show. This three-seater is supposed to be safer, more fuel-efficient, more practical as well as more comfortable than that little Smart ForTwo car. Arguably, better looking too. Make the car electric .. I love my current 1993 BMW .. and I do want an electric car, BMW would be pretty innovative with the electric car, especially with their designers and financial backing .. Perhaps not a Powerhouse like the 2008 M3 ..( drools ) but it still would be cool.. and BTW, nice artist conception .. but I think it needs of a performance look .. I like the looks of the Tesla, and the Obvio E012 .. something between that, and slap a BMW stamp on in .. and I'd buy it for 60K .. ( as long as it performed with approx 240 miles :) )
