Audi's TDI love could spread to the TT sportster

As a major component of the Volkswagen Group, the Audi division is already strongly committed to diesel engine technology. They build diesel versions of most of their models in Europe and they'll be bringing a diesel Q7 to the U.S. market later in 2008. The lone holdouts to the diesel cult are the R8 and TT sports cars. The latter model could be wearing a TDI badge as soon as the next Geneva Motor Show. Audi is reported to be working on diesel TT using the 2.0L engine that features in much of the VW lineup including the upcoming Jetta CleanTDI. Under the hood of the TT the diesel could be bumped up to 200 hp making it a serious challenger to the BMW 123d. Perhaps if Audi decides to offer the TT-TDI in the US, BMW will finally follow suit and do the same.
