Phillipine's all-electric Eagle G-car takes flight
GMA news, a TV station in the Philippines, announced that there's a new EV designed and made in the Philippines. Apparently, the car is inspired by the eagle that you can see in the country's flag and Domenick pointed us to it.
Performance is quite modest, but better than some quadracycles sold in Europe: a body made from fiberglass, able to reach 60 km/h (about 35 mph) and able to run 80 km (50 miles) on a charge. Yes, the announcement was Tagalog but the numbers were said in English. Prices range from 140,000 to 280,000 pesos (about 3,300 to 6,600 USD) but I couldn't tell what options are available.

This is really a waste of raw materials(plastic etc.). With this speeds, it would be better ot be riding an electric bicycle or electric scooter. They have these in China. Do they know that they have used too much energy in manufacturing the plastic shell and bigger battery to run this. Besides, it would not be able to carry anymore weight. Just put this resource in making electric bikes.

That's pretty good range. Looks as weird as ever though.

Yet another itty-bitty EV that probably will never make it to the US because:
A. It costs too much to certify it (crash test, airbags, ABS, etc.) as a regular car. Plus it isn't fast enough.
B. If brought over as an NEV (so limited to 25 mph in most states), people aren't willing to pay enough to make it worthwhile to sell them here.

Cars that can't maintain highway speeds (70-mph) like these NEVs will only be purchased for use in closed communities. Hardly world-changing except for the elite who live in closed communities.

"...except for the elite who live in closed communities."
Not so much elite as retired. Lots (thousands and thousands)of retirees live in gated communities and low speed vehicles might be a perfect solution for them.

I doubt they planned to export it. But since the Phillipines are a chain of small islands and not exactly wealthy, this inexpensive car with its low operating cost will do quite well there. The range should be sufficient for city driving and the typical Philipino commute, and could circle many of the smaller islands.

The Philippines with its available 365 days of sunshine is a good place to run the electric vehicle.
The world may learn a lot from their experience. It's nice that they can enjoy the 0 emission technology.
Hope they would give the technology the same chance somewhere else to evolve.
I think they should lower the price even more though, the Filipinos have an inverted pyramid, when it comes to wealth. 70% are in the poor level as far as new statistics are showing.
Only Entertainment Industry Celebs and Politicians are making money in the country.
It's too poor that the daily basic wage is about US$10.00( ten dollars).
If the public transport industry can change to this, CO2 emissions from jeepney's alone, and fuel dependence can be reduced, that's a start.
