Videos: NY Mayor Bloomberg test drives Javlon, Popular Mechanic test drives Aptera
The video above shows New York mayor Bloomberg speaking in China and saying he will test drive Miles Automotive's Javlon electric car. Recently, we told you early versions of the car had rolled off the production line and the company was checking them out in China.
Below is a video about another highly-anticipated electric car, the Aptera, which Popular Mecahanics test drove recently. Recently, we told you about the video of the PM drive, which includes a good look at the inside of the car and a tour of the outside with a description of many interesting aspects to the Aptera. Now you can watch it for yourself.
Which electric car are you looking forward to most, the Aptera or the Javlon?

GM and Ford had better quit wasting time. They could already be way ahead of the game if they hadn't killed the EV1 and the think. Just produce a current version using EV1 technology with Lithium polymer batteries. It's all available now and their design on the EV1 electronics is great.( I worked on one of the systems it's super) Lithium batteries should put that car near 400 mi. range and 1000lb lighter.
Wake up America!!

Each has its advantages. The Javlon is more conventional looking, with room for 5, giving it more passenger space than the Aptera typ-1.
The Aptera typ-1 has a much lower drag coefficient which could result in greater range or a lower cost battery pack, maybe both. It will also have a plug-in hybrid option. Personally, the typ-1e is my favorite, as I like the high efficiency, the modern look and don't need to carry extra passengers.
Only time will tell which one will arrive on market first, and which will be cheapest.

I just put a deposit down on an Aptera typ-1e, so that's my vote. But more choices doesn't seem like a bad thing.

Aptera! hands down..
Plus watching Bloomberg double as China shill and apologist for their dismal polution record, all my love for Miles gets zapped!
To be sure, letting China build your cars might be smart in the short run, in the long run, its kinda like asking a pack of buzzards to watch your carcas for you while you step round the corner to take a leak.

There's plenty of room in the market for both of these companies to sell their very different variations on an EV.
That being said I'm a little more partial to the Aptera typ-1e. It's got great innovation in it's conception and design. I think the company has a clear and achievable near to mid-term plan and trajectory.
I'm eager to see some typ2e sketches.

If the Miles Javlon was available tomorrow with its specs for $35,000 and is reasonably SAFE, i'd buy NOW!

The Aptera is definitely the best car, addresses all the problems of conventional vehicles (weight, drag, drive efficency) and maintains safety.
That said I think the Javlon will sell better, the Aptera is just too radical for most people.
