Video: LA Times test rides Aptera electric car
The LA Times recently got a test ride of the Aptera electric car recently. The Times also test drove several other three-wheelers including the Vectrix V3, TriRod F3 Adrenaline, Piaggio MP3 500, and Can-Am Spyder. The Times reporter only drove along in the passenger seat of the Aptera but she said the futuristic ride felt stable at 45 MPH. The Aptera Type 1 comes out this year, will cost less than $30,000, has a top speed of 80 MPH and can go 70 miles on a single charge at a constant speed of 80 MPH. It is sure to be one of the more unique electric cars released in 2008.Related:

I would like to know where they are located, so I could look at one in person

"has a top speed of 80 MPH and can go 70 miles on a single charge."
This info isn't correct. The Typ-1e can go up to 120 miles per charge. But can go 70 miles on a charge at a constant speed of 80 MPH. :-)
Well thats what the LAT reporter claims. But the Aptera.com website claims 120 miles per charge.
"In the case of the first Aptera typ-1e, we have calculated the range to be about 120miles."

The more I see this "trike" the more I like the interior. The exterior is too way out for me. It will be interesting to see how well this sells.

Matthijs, Changed. They are probably both right. I would guess 120 mile range assumes a 50/50 mix of city/highway. If you were to use it in the city alone or just drive slower, I bet you get more than 120 mile range.

If this thing would seat three (adults) I'd have a deposit down already. That third seat just isn't useful for me (my kid is almost 5 feet tall already). I'll have to wait for the 4 seater I guess. Super cool design though.
