VIDEO: Current Eleminator V record setting 7.956sec 1/4 mile run

We told a few days ago about Dennis Berube and his record-setting 1/4 mile run in his electric dragster, the Current Eliminator V. Now thanks to the magic of YouTube you can see the 7.956 second run at almost 160mph. The dragster "fueled" by a bank of Altairnano batteries is eerily quiet as it does its burn-out and and then its solo run down the strip. Check out the videos, including one from an on-board camera, after the jump.

Freeeeekin awsum,
I have been in dragracing for 25 years and raced alot of different cars, but this is like finding a new toy.
Great run.
Going to be looking into building one.

The video on the bottom is super cool. :)
Totally awesome. I hope they do well.
I don't know the details, but there has been some controversy about whether this really is a record breaking run. It has something to do with some technicality with the number of times you repeatedly achieve the (approximately) same quarter-mile time, in order to make it official.
Still, it's a great achievement to come this far.

If there's some controversy about it maybe they should do it again. With the Killacycle in the other lane. ^_^ I think a day of racing like this this could only be a boon to both battery companies. And maybe do it on a tv show. Pinks, for instance.

I love the sound these cars make...like demonic electric drills. Pretty wicked watching those tires distort, too.
