Detroit 2008: Cadillac's Ed Welburn says the new CTS Coupe concept would be great as a diesel, no?

Cadillac has just unveiled the CTS Coupe Concept and there was a line in Caddy design head's short presentation of this amazing-looking two-door (which I wasn't recording, because who expected something greenish from Cadillac after they already introduced the Provoq on the stand?) about the CTS Coupe being perfect for a diesel engine. I'll have a video of GM's Bob Lutz introducing the Provoq on the dias later, but for now thought some of our readers just might enjoy being able to wish for a clean diesel Caddy coupe in the garage.
Update: You can find more on the possibilities of seeing a diesel powered CTS coupe in the US market over here.

I understand it's a given that the European 2008 Cadillac CTS has the option of the VM Motori 2.9-liter V6 diesel powerplant.
There's word that engine will be coming to the States, but I still haven't heard how this is possible. How could this engine meet strict 50-state emissions regulations? The German diesels coming to the states have PM and NOx filtration and/or urea-injection to mitigate NOx. Will such a system be fitted to a Cadillac diesel destined for the U.S. market? Will the engine come as-is and only be sold in 45 states until 2010 when the federal emissions laws change again and become stricter?

Gripen good questions. My guess is Motori is working on a US version since that engine could go into a host of rear drive applications.

Just make sure it has a fold-down rear seat. My CLK55 is running strong after 7 years because I can carry my daughter in kids seat + surfboard inside the car.
