New picture of Javlon from AllGreenVehicles, Miles' new EU distributer

I was browsing through the website for AllGreenVehicles, Miles Electric's new EU distributer and I found a new picture of Javlon, a highly-anticipated electric car. From the text on the building in the background, it appears to be in China, the last location I caught up with this slippery electric car. The URL in the lower right, tom.com, is also a popular Chinese web portal. I don't speak Chinese, so I don't know how I would find the source of that image at tom.com. Even more frustrating, the image was at the AllGreenVehicles's news page is in another language I don't understand.
The Miles Javlon, along with a hand-full of other vehicles, may be the first normal, looking, electric car available in the U.S. If you can translate AllGreenVehicles or navigate tom.com to find the source of the alluring image, please post anything you can find in comments or tell us directly. We would really appreciate it because news about the Javlon is hard to find.

Hi Lascelles,
I wasn't able to find the original article. But I got an E-mail from M. Noordam of ALLGREENVEHICLES. They say they expect the Miles high-speed XS500 for the 4th quarter of 2008. They will have a meeting in China around June 2008. They are now working on a EU Approval. They also state that they will have the car introduced earlier then in the US. This because they say the Chinese factory makes the car to specify EU Standards. There also was a Euro Ncap simulation with "Super" results. They say they will ask the Dutch to help setup a new electric infrastructure to create more public outlets.

High efficiency low emission vehicles should have special rules, that are easier to meet. They could be strengthened after the gas hogs are off the road. Also the government should absorb their testing costs. Just add them to the inefficient conventional vehicles.

Actually you can view (some of) the site in English by clicking on theunion jack icon at the left. (In Safari for Windows, I didn't see the union jack until I clicked on the Dutch flag icon; ymmv). Unfortunately the PRODUCTS page has not been translated into English, and is shown in Dutch even if you select English. The Google translation is below. It's obviously not perfect, but gives you a pretty good idea of what they have to say:

One of the nice things about basing an EV on a gas car is you can show the gas car in photos and call it the EV. From certain angles (such as the one here), no one would ever know...

The Language you say you don't understand is dutch :)
Didn't see this coming, a dutch company for Miles cars. On the site they say they are going to be the distributors for the BeNeLux. This are only 3 country's and a very small part of the EU. I think more company's will take a chance in Europe to get these EV's.
The "new development page" says:
Soon there will be more news on Electric propulsion from all types off vehicles from light to heavy duty company vehicles. This next to the picture of the Javlon. Not really news. :-(
The page also says they are licensed to service your car. But there isn't any adres to be found on the site. All the other stuff on the site is just some sales talk that isn't really good in my opinion.
And you can forget it to drive the car without a license in the Netherlands. You have to get a special license for light scooters and other slow moving vehicles. You can only ride a bike without a license!
If someone wishes more info I can translate more of the page. :-)

One of the nice things about basing an EV on a gas car is all of the major R&D and crash testing is done, so you can just get the damn thing on the market. There is no need for these to be "moon shot" projects (GM's term). Tweaking the weight and aero to death is of diminishing importance as battery energy density is already good enough to get acceptable range. Something Toyota used to its advantage in making the Rav4EV with NIMH compared to the professed $1 billion R&D effort behind the EV1 which was built with lead acid in mind.

ug: It's easy to say that but the reality is a little different.
You might save some money on design and tooling, but throwing 400+ pounds of batteries in the trunk is enough to force you to re-do* the whole regulatory gauntlet. If you fail anything, you have to redesign anyway. That's far more than most small companies can handle, but still manageable with Toyota's budget.
* Actually, both Miles and Phoenix are basing on designs which have never been sold in the U.S., so they'll have to run the full regulatory gauntlet anyway, with no assurances that even the original model would pass.
