Video: GMC's Superbowl ad for Yukon hybrid
The ad for the hybrid Chevy Malibu did not make it to air but GMC's Yukon hybrid ad did. Like we said Thursday, the Yukon hybrid ad features the 1976 animated short Sisyphus by Marcell Jankovics. The voice over to the animation says the following:
Why push? Why change? Why grow? Why dream? Questions you don't have to ask yourself when you never say "it's good enough." When you never say "it can't be done." When you never say "never."
Then the text "Introducing the Yukon Hybrid from GMC. Limited Availability" and "50% Better Mileage in a full size SUV is now a reality" appears. In case you missed it during the game, you can watch it above. BTW, the Giants won.

Was Sisyphus an appropriate symbol for their campaign?
From wikipedia:
Sisyphus promoted navigation and commerce, but was avaricious and deceitful, violating the laws of hospitality by killing travelers and guests. He took pleasure in killing his guests because that would allow him to maintain his position at the top.
As a punishment from the gods for his trickery, Sisyphus was compelled to roll a huge rock up a steep hill, but before he reached the top of the hill, the rock always escaped him and he had to begin again (Odyssey, xi. 593).
So, I pull out the following message...GM is deceitful and as punishment they will continue toiling away making no progress for eternity...or did I miss something? :-)

I'll agree with Rob on this one. How many times has GMC pushed that rock up the hill so far? I'm guessing EV1 counts as one time the bolder when back to the bottom.

You guys are a bunch of hippie idiots that know nothing about the auto industry or basic economics for that matter.
You spout out numbers like we could do this stuff yesterday at a cost reasonable to the average joe.
If you morons were so smart you would be working for these companies...

@2, i think you missed the idea, notice at the end of the video the guy actually got the boulder up the hill and it didn't roll back down. i think gm is saying that it has succeeded at its mission, and that it has made progress.
in addition i agree with comment 4. it does take a lot capital (r&d, financial, etc) to acomplish these lofty goals in industry. people talk like its easy to get a fullsize suv to pull 20mpg while retaining the capabilities of its conventional counterparts, if it is go for it and make yourself rich, or if you don't care to be rich, think of it as philanthropy, or even just trolling gm by being "better" than them.
this truck is more of a niche vehicle anyway, only reasonably well-to-do ppl that want a capable truck will get it, and mostly just to be trendy (green is the new black i hear). well, they'll get this or the escalade version.
if you want a vehicle that gets 50mpg, don't look at truck. that just means you want to be a troll on the message boards. get a small diesel or hybrid car if you want a lot of miles for a minimal amount of fuel.
watch out for trolls under the bridge :P
