Chavez backs off threat to cut oil sales to America
Chavez is backing off his threats to cut oil sales to America that we recently told you about. According to Bloomberg, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on state television that, "We don't have plans to stop sending oil to the U.S. ... All I've said is that, if the U.S. attacks us, we'll have to decide not to send one drop of oil to the U.S." False alarm everyone, back to using gas. Chavez meant if we attacked him, he would stop oil shipments ... which would make sense. While America is in good shape to receive Venezuelan oil, things are not developing as well for oil companies. Chavez did not back off stopping sales to Exxon and he is considering a "tax on sudden earnings." I kinda like that idea.

Poor little Venezuela? That's like saying poor little Saudi Arabia.
They pump oil full tilt with NO care for the environment. But Chavez el Prick Face makes funny Bush comments, so liberals love him. Hypocrite much?

It's their oil. They can sell it, or not sell it to whomever they choose for whatever the market will bear. If China bids it up just to crush the US economy. We can’t say that we didn’t see it coming.

You like the idea of taxes? That tells me that you're not paying any, because those of us who do pay them are not nearly as found of the taxes.
By the way, Exxon and the other oil companies are owned by grandmothers everywhere. It's called a stock market. I suggest you check your 401 K so that you can more thourally understand who owns Exxon.

It may be hard for you to get this concept, but a large portion of the population (about 30%) has exactly zero -- that's right, zero -- stock of any sort. Not through a 401k, not through anything. The poor and lower middle class retire on their social security. Such an upper middle class view that, of course everyone owns stock!
As for taxes, if you hate them so much, stop driving on our roads, go fight overseas to take the slack off our military, go care for our veterans and seniors yourself, educate the next generation yourself, put out fires yourself, arrest criminals yourself, fund the justice system yourself, and hundreds of other things. Oh, let me guess -- you like having "functioning civil society" around you, but you just don't like having to pay for it.

I guess in Comrade Karen's world we should just tax the hell out the productive people, you know, the ones who don't have 5 kids out of wedlock with 5 different daddies, or who are strung out on drugs and just drain social services. Also lets tax the hell out of business, so they will fail, and won't hire anybody. Because we all know how many people those folks selling home-made "911 was an inside job" t-shirts on street corners in Berkley hire people and support the economy. In the meantime lets continue to sing the praises of a two bit thug in central america who is only relevant because he could care less about the environment and will pump oil at ALL COSTS to ensure he runs with no opposition, Viva La Moonbat!

I love how neither of you addressed the fact that you're enjoying the benefits of the taxes that you pay and yet railing about them at the same time. A lot easier to call your opponent names than to address their argument, isn't it?

I don't care what they do about taxes, but as far as Chavez, he can sell to whomever he wants. The U.S. uses far too much oil, IMO.

Well meme, let's put it this way, I'd rather rely on myself than wait for big gov come with their handouts. The mommies with 5 kids out of wedlock get far more out of MY tax money than I do. And be all means let Senior Prick Face stop selling oil to the US. China (already surpassing the US in creating pollution) and India will suck it up as fast as he can pump it. Then the massive pollution cloud from China can travel across the pacific like it does every year and settle on the "left coast", were clueless liberals can cheer Chavez decision to stop selling oil to the EVIL American empire.

It's too bad the U.S. outlawed the assassination of foreign heads of state. A more pragmatic approach to dealing with thug dictators would go a long way towards eliminating thug dictators. The world would be a better place without them.

meme - I do recieve benefits from the taxes that I pay, but not in proportion to the amount that I pay. I understand that taxes are needed and I think everyone should have the equal privilage of paying them -- but that's not how it works.
40% of Americans do not pay taxes anymore, while 40% of all taxes are raised by taxing the top 10%. That aint right and you know it.
Last year, I paid almost ...I don't even want to say it. It hurts to say it, but understand it was 40% of everything that I made. That's too much considering that I disagree with the way it is usually spent.
Meme, I paid as much taxes as 100 average people last year, but I only earned 10 times what an average person makes. I'm thankful (I'm blessed) and I want to help others, but I would like to do it my way. I didn't drive on the roads 100 times more. I didn't require 100 times the police protection, or 100 times the fire protection. Those who paid nothing got free healthcare, while I paid 100% of my cost.
And now, people like me are thinking of leaving America and just going elsewhere. When we do, and if we do, it's going to get hairy here.
