Ford's new baby finally arrives; it's the new Ford Ka!

We've been seeing this little machine covered in camoflage for months now, but here it is in bare painted metal. The second-generation of Ford's Ka will be showing up at European dealerships later this year wearing the smallest iteration yet of "kinetic" design. The first gen Ka was based on a shortened version of the old Fiesta platform. This time around Ford has teamed up with Fiat and the Ka shares its underpinnings with the new 500. That means propulsion will be coming from 1.2 and 1.4L gas engines or a 1.3L diesel. Unfortunately, we probably won't be seeing the Ka on American roads anytime soon. The Fiesta will likely remain the smallest U.S. Ford unless mini-cars really start to take off here.

If they shipped the diesel version to the states around September when the NEW diesel fuel is available I would be very interested!

So would many other Americans.
The time has come to join with the rest of the world and embrace diesels.

When will the auto manufactures allow Americans to decide what they want instead of assuming? Obviously, they don't have our best interests in mind -- the bigger the car, the bigger the profit. I’m not completely ignorant; as a whole Americans want large cars – but give us a chance to purchase small, fuel-efficient vehicles.

@1: Can you clarify your comment about this "NEW diesel fuel"? I though we had it in the US in Sept 2006?

"unless mini-cars really start to take off here"
-- They can't rightly "take off" if we're never given the chance to buy them, now can they?

#5: You americans already had two chances: our great german Fiesta (1977 to 1980) and the even greater Ford Festiva. You did not want it! So please stop whining and do not cry for a polish Fiat redressed as a Ford: The exchange rate Zloty US$ is too high, so it does not work.
Just kidding. :-)

I think this is the kind of car we need to have the option of purchasing in the USA. I myself would love the diesel version of it in my driveway.

If introduced to Canada, this would be a run a way success.

great German what?
it's not just Ford who have teamed up with Fiat. It's everyone. Saab, Tata, Suzuki, Opel, Daimler (who have spent a mere 2 billion euros only last year on Fiat truck diesels)....The Germans don't even have a remotely decent equivalent.
Why do German cars always come last in Euroncap ratings, emissions ratings, and everything else, despite costing more? because all the money is spent on marketing and hot air (ring a bell??)
