Ford Fiesta hatchback has a good chance of coming to the U.S.

Last week, Ford announced that their new B-class car that's coming to the U.S. for 2010 would retain the name Fiesta that's currently used for that car in the rest of the world. When the Verve concept made it's North American debut at the Detroit Auto Show last month most of the attention was paid to the new four-door sedan version. This was no surprise given American consumers seeming preference to that form factor. However, visitors to the show might have also noticed that the original three-door hatchback concept that debuted last fall at Frankfurt was also sitting nearby. It turns out that the hatchback had been touring European shows and was not originally planned to be shown here. However, new marketing chief Jim Farley, who recently moved to Dearborn from Toyota, had other ideas. According to a Ford source, Farley insisted that the hatchback be shown in North America alongside the sedan. Farley apparently supports the idea of selling the hatch here. Based on the comments to the posts on the production Fiesta photos here and on Autoblog, it seems that the majority of readers feel the same way. No decision has been made at this point, but chances look good for America getting a hatchback Fiesta as well as the sedan.

PLEASE BRING THE HATCH!!!!! The sedan, while nice, is boring next to it!
Dear Ford: Think about some successful hatches here in the US RIGHT NOW....Mini, Rabbit, Yaris, Versa, C30, Fit, xB, xD, xA, A3 and more! Here in Chicago, I still see MANY examples of your older Focus hatches on the road (and they still look very different, quite fresh, and very European).
Make a statement and bring the hatchback. It's a much better looking and sexy car!
Thank you.

Out of curiosity, does anyone here prefer the sedan? If so, why?
It seems the hatchback is much more useful and just plain looks better.

While the hatch gets raves on the web, the fact is the sedan will handily outsell it. Just look at the Jetta vs Golf/Rabbit. Mazda 3 sedan vs hatch. Even Subaru expects the Impreza sedan to outsell the hatch.

Maybe this car is built in europe. If so, it maybe
is not advantageous to sell it here in north america due to high building and export costs even
if there is a market here. The europeen currency is too high. I know the p.r of the car manufacturers and they never say the truth. Importing a luxury europeen car that they sell at double price is profitable but an economic car
at small price is probably not profitable.

The Fiesta will be built locally for each market, starting this year in Europe. Asian markets will be supplied from a plant that will be announced later this year with a source for the North American models to be announced next year. The NA models will not be sourced from Europe and probably not from Asia. Most likely ours will come from either Mexico or Brazil although the current state of the dollar means US production is not entirely out of the question.
Wherever it gets built though it will be sold in the US and Canada. That is certain.

This must be why there is no Ford Focus hatchback for the 2008 model; they're bringing the Fiesta hatchback!

I hope we get it. Four door and 5-door hatchbacks remind me of an old persons car.....which I own right now.....lol.

I hope Ford Co. will read this as it echos some of the comments made by others.
I have owned three Fords (Escort, Contour, now Focus ZX5.) The subject of this message is the ZX5. A great car so why did Ford discontinue it in 2007? I hear they are going to bring the Fiesta (which seems quite similar in looks) from Europe in 2010. I hope so, or bring back the ZX5. (Forget the 3 door hatchbacks for the US--look what happened to the ZX3!)
So Ford, wake up! You need the ZX5 back or similar. Virtually every other manufacturer (esp. the foreign companies who are knocking our brains out in sales) are offering 5 door hatch backs. So why not Ford? Wise up! Wake up! You screwed up getting rid of the 5 door hatchback Escort, a fantastic car, then you screwed up the Taurus, formerly America's #1 selling car. Then canning the ZX5! You can't make this stuff up! Try and get it right next time Ford, I'm beggin' you for your own good!
