Geneva '08 Preview: Mila Alpin
Magna International's Austrian contract car building division, Magna Steyr, will be showing the third in a series of concepts at the Geneva Motor Show next week. Like its Magna Innovation Lightweight Auto predecessors, the new MILA Alpin is focused on minimal mass. In this case it's designed as an all-terrain rock climber with a hybrid drive system fueled by natural gas. Magna designed the hybrid system in-house and has built the vehicle with a modular architecture that allows it to be manufactured with different combinations of hardware. The natural gas engine could easily be replaced by a small supercharged gasoline unit or something else entirely. The Alpin is capable of climbing a 45o slope and emitting less than 100g/km of CO2.
