Miles Automotive CEO: XS500 "a little over a year" from release, cross-over and other models planned
In an interview by Industry Standard, Miles Automotive CEO Jeff Boyd said the all-electric X500 is "a little over a year" from release. Industry Standard asked what Boyd thought about competition from plug-in hybrids and he replied that he was not aware of any plug-in close to production. Boyd then added that, "We're a little over a year away, so we think we're maybe two or three years ahead of most plug-in hybrid vehicles." I wonder what's taking them so long. If dropping an EV drivetrain into a pre-existing ICE chassis is as easy as they say it is, why aren't they on the road already?
I'm about ready to write off their efforts as "doomed", at this point. The XS500 lacks ambition, and will not be a competitive choice versus all the plug-in hybrids scheduled to come on the road in the next few years.

I share the dismay at the vaporware launches of these guys. Whoever comes out with an EV that's a family car, top speed about 65mph, $30K or less w/100 miles or so of range (Th!nk, Miles, Tesla's Bluestar, etc), I'll buy it the next day. Gas is only going up, and my wife has a Prius so forget the Volt if I need extended range. If I'm going to plug it in at night anyway I'll pass on fossil fuels. I'll rent a car for the handful of times per year I need more range than that. I want a full BEV! Bring it on!
