Brilliance preparing a diesel powertrain for Europe

This isn't the first time we've heard about a Chinese manufacturer thinking of going diesel. This time, it's Brilliance that's announcing a new powertrain. Not that this news is very brilliant (pun intended), although it is improved.

The powertrain is a 1.9-liter unit designed in-house by Brilliance, with turbo and injection system made by Bosch. Brilliance announced two versions of the diesel powerplant that reach different emissions levels: Euro III and Euro V. This engine will be installed in the BS4 and BS6. Those modes will go on sale in Europe next summer, although not with the diesel engines at launch. Performance is not expected to be very brilliant (sorry, forgive me), with the announced specs of the 2.4 liter gasoline unit reaching 0-100 km/h in 13.8 seconds.
