Ghosn: Nissan committed to becoming a "global leader" in affordable EVs

According to Nissan and Renault head Carlos Ghosn, Nissan has plans to become a global leader in affordable electric vehicles. Citing rising oil costs and environmental issues, especially in emerging markets, Ghosn is quoted as suggesting that it was a "very easy" decision when it comes to justifying Nissan's commitment to zero-emission vehicles. Ghosn says, "We are looking at a future of permanently high energy costs." He goes on, "That is why in our opinion it is time for zero-emissions cars, those that will be completely neutral to the environment." While much of Nissan's planned growth centers around emerging markets - oh, and the Middle East - those electric vehicles will most likely be offered here in the States as well, starting in 2011.
Don't hold your breath for fuel cells, biofuel vehicles or more hybrids from Nissan, though. Nissan has partnered with NEC for the development of large-scale automotive batteries and believes that fully-electric vehicles are the way to go.

Ev's have no future in my humble opinion. If someone can start a F7ck(n* algae bio-diesel-ethanol-butanol-food for animals and humans and fertilizers making small factory then diesel and gas and foods and clean lands and water would not be a problem. Ev's if fuel become cheap with green algae on the markets, will not be a popular choice because of too much drawbacck like range and power.

Looks alot like the Scion XB. I'm surprised that this shape is popular enough to warrant TWO iterations.

A.Brien: Algae farming is *very expensive*, not cheap. What, do you think people haven't been doing it because they don't feel like making a ton of money?
And yes, this car is ugly. And not ugly because it's shaped like a box; to me, it's ugly because it looks like it has god-awful drag. I'm one of those weird people who think the Aptera is one of the most beautiful cars ever designed. ;) And with EVs, low drag and low rolling resistance are critical to keeping costs down, so it's a double benefit.

Electric is the way to go. One acre of land will produce 180,000 gallons gas equivilent with photovoltaics. The present best for biofuels is about 300 gallons.
ANWR belongs to the american people. 30 billion barrels of oil are there. Of the $140 per barrel, don't you thing $120 should go to the people since we own the oil?

Ouch Bill,
If you don't let the "Capitalists" take 99% of the profit it just wouldn't be Capitalism.
