French mayor helps you cut on gas expenses by buying you a bike

The conservative Mayor of Colmar, France, Mr. Gilber Meyer, has decided to give a hand to households so they spend less money in gasoline. How? He's giving away €100 per household to purchase a bicycle. His deputy for urbanism and security, Yves Hemedinger, states "It's well known that one of France's main worries are the high cost of oil and ecology. This measure will help our citizens save money and pollute less for their displacements." Since you can find a bicycle for about €100-120, this is a good deal. Almost a thousand applications have been received so far. The town is also installing new bicycle lanes which will extend the Alsacian town's network up to 67 km. This is quite a radical measure compared to gas tax breaks!

@GoodCheer : As far as i lived there for 3 years, this look likes the town center of Strasbourg (FR), namely the quarter "Petite France", which is very touristic and very beautiful.
A lot of town center of the little vilages around Strasbourg may look the same (except for the river)
@Xavier : Did our French President heard of that and will he apply it to each and every household in the country ?
numbers : 23.8 millions household * 100 € = 2380 millions €
The price of our future second aircraft carrier :-)

Is Mr. Gilber Meyer paying for these bicycles with his own money, or is he stealing it from the productive taxpayers so that he can redistribute it to the less-productive ones?
Only a complete idiot would call this form of socialist redistribution conservative!

Yes that is a real picture...France has TONS of places like that...melts my heart and makes me want to be there so badly I tear up.
That country has to be one of the most beautiful in the world. When I see a place like that and then realize I live in shithole like the US where we see nothing but concrete, cookie cutter shopping centers, and nothing but cars, it makes me sick.
It would be utter stupidity to drive a car in a neighbourhood like that...I'd want to do nothing but walk or ride to the next coffeeshop around the corner.
@TIM...
What the hell is wrong with you? You call this socialism....yeah SO WHAT? It benefits people overall. Is that so hard to see?
You live in ultimate socialism my friend....40% of every dollar of your tax money goes to the current war....how does that feel for socialist redistribution with no say so?

Tim:
The mayor is, indeed, member of the UMP, which is a conservative party.

Armmat, that's why I bring these things up. People have forgotten the meaning of conservative and the difference between "conservatism" and "socialism" because the major media leftists have renamed the players and manipulated the game.
This Mayer is a "new-conservative" (Neocon) which is just a code word for old-socialist pretending to be something he is not. There is NO real conservative party in France and the war in Iraq was started by American Neocons who call themselves “compassionate conservatives” as the drop bombs on innocent civilians and steal from the productive to buy votes from the non-productive.
DON’T GET CONNED AGAIN!!
