Autotrader.com visitors say that gas prices will affect their summer vacations
Autotrader.com surveyed 432 random visitors to their site and found - surprise! - some trends that are a direct consequence of high gas prices: 73 percent of these visitors said that high gas prices will impact their summer driving, causing them to drive less. According to Autotrader, that means that Americans will seek vacation and recreation options closer to home, which of course will affect the tourist industry. They will use more mass transit options for commuting to work, which will affect current public transport systems. Finally, this means that they will cut back on shopping and seek out for one-stop shopping, which will affect retail. Surpsring? No, but it shows the wide impact that $4/gallons of gas.

I'm sure they put a disclaimer on that stating that it was not a scientific survey. It's a survey of people who are looking to buy or sell cars online, at a time when the price of gas is making daily headline news. People who are nervous or concerned about said issue are far more likely to visit the site at this time, thus granting them a pretty poor cross-section. I wouldn't read too deeply into the results.

I'm not looking for a new car, and neither are my friends. This survey depicts exactly what we are thinking. Scientific or not, I think it's a fair representation of most people resolve, unscientifically speaking!
