Dodge launches the European Journey with DSG and diesel

The European people carrier market segment has a new contender coming from the U.S.: The Dodge Journey. However, instead of the array of gasoline engines sold stateside, Europeans will have a well-known diesel powertrain available in their markets, the VW-sourced 2.0-liter TDI that produces 140 HP and 310 Nm of torque (228 lbft). This isn't a surprise, as this engine can also be found fitted to the Euro versions of the Dodge Caliber and Avenger, as well as the Jeep Compass and Patriot. But the combination with the 6-speed double-clutch DSG gear change is new. The new Journey's performance is quite respectable, with a 0-100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) time of 11.8 seconds, and fuel consumption moderate for a vehicle of this size: 6.5 l/100 km with manual and 7.0 l/100 km with the automatic DSG (36 and 34 mpg U.S. respectively).

I'm sorry but this has got to be a f!cking conspiracy. CARB and the EPA have their heads up their a$$es - Americans are constantly getting screwed, and this is a prime example. Their is absolutely no reason these vehicles shouldn't be available in the US market RIGHT NOW!

Speqtre : The problem is that the average American is terrified of diesel. There are also emission concerns - and finally price.
The VW Jetta Diesel with a 2k premium over a gas engine at least gives hope that these costs will come down across the board.

Oh, and the fact that diesel simply costs more doesn't help - regardless of the advantages and mileage improvement.

The reason why they aren't selling this 35+ mpg in the U.S. is that....
1. Americans are wary of diesel
2. DSG probably adds cost, and Dodge is very careful to make their cars as cheap as possible
3.This car does 0-60 in 11.8 seconds. Sorry, Navarro, that's not considered respectable at all. I read a review a few days ago whining about some another minivan doing 0-60 in nine seconds.

1. the typical American is an idiot
2. Excessive fuel consumption costs more than a DSG
3. Get over yourself - slow down, stop racing from stoplight to stoplight and do something for our economy and the planet
This whole attitude of having the biggest, fastest vehicle has to end - it's not your penis, it's just a car.

why is 0-60m in 11 seconds not fast enough? It may not be sporty enough, but that's another story.
As Speqtre indicated... so many drivers could save so much gas and money if they would only accelerate slower.. another advantage is that you have to stand still less for a red light.

11.8 seconds to 60 is fine. People have their cars that hit 60 in 8 seconds, and never even come close to using that power. Only the car mags and people that frequent this site want that much power. Going around town, the diesel 4-banger is just as good as the gas V6.
I hope that the car manufacturers can find a way to reduce the amount/cost of catalytic converters and particulate traps so that the cost of diesel option gets cheaper and fuel economy improves.

There is nothing wrong about 0-60 in 11.8 seconds. It is enough.
However, the average consumer in America (whom wants so much more than they need) is going to want more power than that. Sales would probably be better if they sacraficed a few mpg for more power.
