Have fun with this political item: biodiesel (D) vs. Hummer (R)

I feel really honored to be able to participate in the AutoblogGreen community, especially when I'm able to get people talking about a political issue (like yesterday, with the "blame a liberal" post) and I want to thank those of you who contributed excellent comments to that post.
Today, I just want to point out a fun post over at Crooks And Liars that shows how two political candidates in Virginia promoted their causes during a Fourth of July parade in Scottsville. The Democrat, somone named Tom Perrielo, rode on a biodiesel-fueled tractor. The Republican, incumbent Virgil Goode, rode through in an enclosed Hummer, according to C&L (see a video after the jump). I'm sure a few of you have a comment or two to leave about this, no?
In any case, I'm about to take a few weeks off and spend some time in Europe. I'll be around a bit tomorrow and the rest of the AutoblogGreen team will keep things humming once I'm out the door, so keep on enjoying the site. Thanks.

Ugh. Taking one particular single individual's actions and using it to paint a whole group of people with a great big wide brush is getting really, really, really, really old to me. I don't even consider "R", "D", "liberal", or "conservative" monikers to be all that useful in telling me how someone will behave anymore anyway. But joining a group and laboriously trying to pin the world's ills on that other group seems to be a really popular pastime for the entire human race, so I suspect it will go on forever.
Our energy problems are the result of poor planning by a LOT of people of ALL political stripes and personal belief systems. From 'leaders' right down to individual citizens.

Sebastian, it's painfully obvious how politically involved you are, and that you are probably loyal to the left. But I don't mind, this is a very entertaining post. :)

I am a staunch social and fiscal conservative - yet I frequent this blog almost every day. Is anyone confused? I hope that this site continues to be a-political in the future. Many greenies lump all conservatives into one ugly stereotype on this issue. I respect Autobloggreen for making people like me feel comfortable reading about my favorite subject. The energy revolution will only happen if (R)s and (D)s work together!

It's not confusing to me. It's a perfectly rational concern for ANYONE who enjoys freedom of mobility and relies on it to function, which would include just about anyone of any political leaning who peruses the internet.
I'm not staunch anything, but I'm smart enough to see that like you said it's going to take people setting aside their differences and finding common goals we can agree on that balance sometimes disparate needs (it was called compromise before that became a dirty word). No, I'm sorry, you won't get ~everything~ you want. But any adult should know that the world doesn't work that way and try to strive for a world we can all be mostly happy with, instead of just ourselves.

Yes Sebastian! We all love it when you decide to put a political spin on everything...
Come on, this website is supposed to about green vehicles not agendas, and I for one do not believe they are always synonymous.

I'm afraid that this story just isn't true. And I'm a Democrat, (mis-)represented by the Republican in question, who has spent a great deal of time trying to get him out of office. Rep. Virgil Goode walked through the crowd, as is his habit, he didn't ride in that vehicle. (Goode would have to have both of his legs hacked off at mid-thigh to ever ride through a parade.) Also, that vehicle isn't his. He had nothing to do with it. It's a local fellow's—he's a Republican—who chose to put some yard signs on his vehicle to promote his candidates of choice.

Biofuels raise food prices and starve people. Go Hummer!

Be careful with that generalization, Wolf. Bio-ethanol currently produced primarily from food-based feed stocks has been widely implicated in contributing to rising food prices. Bio-diesel, on the other hand, is produced from variety of non-food-based feed-stocks, waste vegetable and animal fat.

Chris: Make that two of us right wing conspirators that come here daily. If we all spent half the energy we spend pointing fingers actually doing something about our energy issues, we'd have no one to blame. They would already be solved.

I'm another of those evil conservatives. Sebastian, seriously, get a grip. When it comes right down to it, not a single candidate running for office can call themselves a true environmental steward. Think of all the lawn signs and palm cards and literature and white papers and all this information becomes trash scattered all over the district.

I used to be a republican. No way I would be a liberal. I just wish people would stop having the government be involved with every single aspect of their lives. I want them to keep us free and that is it. Everything beyond that is all about control and power. Let society and the money drive the market. Politicians should not be allowed to have any sharing interests in commodity as to have an unbiased opinion. I could go on and on......

I find it interesting that when the liberal camp makes fun of the conservative camp, the liberals are WRONG. Yet, for years, the disorganized liberals sat idly by when the K-Street Gang pulled all kinds of dirty tricks.
I don't see any "conservatives" come to the liberal defense about dirty politics.
I am not suggesting that it's payback time, but don't be all high and mighty and use the word "conservative" and think it's all about "truth" or "morality" either. If fiscal conservatives had truly stuck to their principles, I'd sure like to see how they can support Bush and his deficit policies.

Man, you guys are taking this article way too seriously. This is something to joke about because it fits in left and right wing stereotypes. Yes I said stereotypes. We understand that not every Republican or Democrat has to have the exact same views that their selected parties says they are suppose to have.
