British Motor Show Preview: Ford to intro 42mpg Fiesta Zetec S

We're only a week away from the British Motor Show and we've got some info on the sportier version of the new Fiesta. The Zetec S will be officially unveiled in London with a brand new 1.6L four cylinder rated at 118hp. In the Fiesta the new engine will get you up to 62 mph in 9.9 seconds. Along the way the Fiesta Zetec S consumes gasoline at the rate of 41.6 mpg. Carbon dioxide emissions are rated at 139 g/km. All of this bodes well for what we can expect when the Fiesta debuts in North America in early 2010. Like the Mazda2 with which it shares its platform the Fiesta is actually lighter than the previous generation model. More than half of the Feista structure is made of high strength steel giving it increased strength at a lower mass. Ford still hasn't revealed which engines wil go into the US Fiesta but this 1.6L seems likely to be part of the lineup.

Dear Ford,
PLEASE change the name of this vehicle so I can bring myself to buy one. I'm willing to overlook my previous promise to never buy another Ford if you can help me not have to utter the word "fiesta" at the autozone parts counter.

LOL Patrick. I feel your pain, I don't know why Ford wants to call this thing the Fiesta. Sells of that car were not that great, and if I recall correctly, it wasn't a very good car. I would think that people would think back on the old Fiesta and maybe go with something like the Mazda 2 instead. I agree, Ford change the name.

I always associated the Fiesta name with "cheapest car we make and it shows", though I never owned one. That was just the impression I got looking at them. Maybe it's time to consider reviving the Escort name. I did own a couple of them and found them to be great little cars.

Yes... please o please change the name. I like the style and specs but would never ever buy a car called Fiesta, it's just a very stupid name. Some of these very large companys make the dumbest decisions. How about calling it the Ford Gas Mieser?

I'd think ABG readers would be more open to the name. The prior Fiesta was rated at 42mpg on the highway. Isn't that a good thing? :)

You would think that Ford was based in Europe and that Europe is Ford's largest market. They get all the cool stuff first. I want this car. NOW!!!
