New Renault Twingo, Under 120 g/km CO2 and no diesel

For those who hate diesel but still want to have low CO2 emitting cars, Renault is offering a solution: A new variant of the Twingo has been introduced that emits 120 g/km and burns 5.1 l of unleaded for each 100 km (46mpg U. S.). This qualifies for France's 700€ bonus for low-polluting cars. The engine, named LEV, is derived from the standard 1.2-liter 75hp gas version which has the engine tuned specifically, as well as a gerbox with higher speed ratios.
Fiat has followed Renault and has launched the Fiat Panda Eco as well.. With lower consumption and less CO2 emissions, the Fiat Panda Eco is made starting from the base 1.1-liter 56hp gasoline engine and reduces consumption from 5.6 to 5.0 l/100 km (42 and 47mpg U. S. respectively and puts the CO2 figure under the magic 120 g/km figure.

These are cars manufacturers are afraid to put on sale in u.s.a.
Not just because the differences in crash tests or emissions but mainly because in u.s.a drivers are used to low revving big torque automatic cars and these little cars need manual gearbox
with high r.p.m operation to move decently. But im sure that if they try a lot of drivers can change their mind. Then there is the pricing problem, in europe these are sold at a higher price and in u.s.a these cars are worth 10 000$-13 000$, not enouph for over-priced manufacturers like ford, gm, toyota, honda, chrysler, volk, mazda, nissan, aston martin, mercedes, bmw, porsche, mini, tesla, boeing, nike, swiss apparel, cartier.
Maybe the chinese or india can save us.

I'm afraid you are correct. These cars will not be brought into the US because the manufactures think no one will buy them. But I think they would sell like ice cream on a hot summer's day.

56 horse power?
Efficient cars are fantastic, but that amount of power is poor. 56 hp is rubbish in a motorcycle, let alone a car that seats four people.
Citroen C4: 120 g /km; 110 hp. One hundred and ten crazy French ponies in a car that sips fuel is something we could all live with.
If motoring eventually comes to vehicles with 56 donkies under the hood, the car will be dead.
