Mazda won't be building a hybrid version of the 6
Right now Mazda is in the process of launching the new version of its mid-sized sedan the 6 in North America. The car gets all new styling and upgraded powertrains that are more efficient. While the new car is slightly larger than before, Mazda has managed to reduce the weight. One thing Mazda has apparently decided not to do is offer a hybrid drivetrain in the 6. Ford's Japanese affiliate feels the mileage of the 6 will be good enough to be competitive with conventional drivetrains. The 2.5L four cylinder version is rated at 20/29 mpg city/highway with a manual transmission. For now the Tribute CUV (a clone of the Ford Escape) will remain the only hybrid Mazda. Although Mazda isn't saying anything publicly, it would be interesting to know if battery availability plays any part in this decision. Ford will be launching a hybrid version of the Fusion and Mercury Milan shortly after the new year.

I LOVE my Mazda 3 5-door and would love a hybrid version too. My big hope was a CX-7 Hybrid.
