New shots of the production Volt

General Motors has rather quietly released two new shots of the production Chevy Volt. We get a glimpse of both the front corner and the very rear of the game-changer, which is expected to be shown in production form at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in October. Looking at the two new shots, it's clear that GM designers have tried their best to make the new car recognizable as the concept Volt shown back in Detroit in 2007. Clearly, though, the car's rougher edges have been smoothed over in an effort to cheat the wind and therefore improve aerodynamics and overall efficiency. We can also see the high-tech look of the headlights and fog lights, which glow a cool blue color. The rear gives an early glimpse into the production-ready badge.
Also released were ten shots of engineers doing their thing on the model's chassis and stylists molding the production-spec bodywork from clay. We really aren't sure why GM has released these early teasers, but we're certainly not complaining. Take a good look at our gallery below and let us know what you think.

Front (corner) definitely looks like SAAB prototypes of the last five years.
Perhaps no surprise, but it's really obvious.
Hopefully they'll come with a non-crush insurance ?

Do you think they'd risk that quagmire again? Just seeing how much money and time they're pouring into the project shows that they aren't going to repeat history. And if California gives them trouble about this being a PZEV instead of a ZEV, I imagine they'll tell them where to go this time.

I like the grille, personally. Seeing as the car is shaping up to take a very mainstream sedan shape, as opposed to the original concept (that I never did think looked that great), it's going need some kind of visual cue to set it off as an Eflex vehicle. You don't want people to think it's a special edition Malibu. The grille is extremely functional, which people in this segment like to see, and paired with the blacked out glass section of the rear deck, this car will be instantly recognisable front and rear as one of GM's green cars. All the power to them.

That could very well be the car for the Paris show they are hand building in those pics.

I'm pretty sure the grill is louvered, so that it opens up when the ICE needs to be cooled. It's closed to improve aerodynamic efficiency at speed though. Pretty genius, and makes the car more high end. Sort of like the Jaguar XF's rotating interior air exhausts. Very sleek.
