BREAKING: Is this the production Chevy Volt in Transformers 2?

Is the vehicle pictured above the production Chevy Volt? It sure looks like it. It has the right greenhouse profile and judging from the head and tail-lights it looks an awful lot like the teaser shots that GM has been releasing lately. Perhaps the most telling detail though is the visible at the base of the A-pillar right in front of the mirror. The letters on that badge sure appear to spell out VOLT!. The car in this photo was shot during filming of Transformers 2 somewhere in Long Beach. So far calls to our contacts at GM are going unanswered but let you know as soon as we hear something. Thanks to Tony for the tip!UPDATE: This is indeed the Volt! A video of the shoot has turned up that shows the car from above and clearly shows the rear end with a Chevy bowtie badge and prominent Volt logo. You can check out the video here and screen caps in the gallery below.

That is definitely the Volt. Now the question is whether it is a real Volt mule or if it is just a Cruze with Volt body panels.

If this is indeed the Volt look, then it is undoubtedly nothing more than a fiberglass body shell on an existing platform, likely a Cobalt. They would not use a real mule or prototype in filming.

Normally I would agree with you Sam, but in the video FofR links to below at 0:38, they open the door and it appears to have a finished interior. If it was just a fiberglass shell, why would they bother lining the doors?
Sam Abuelsamid 10:05PM (8/28/2008)
They may have needed to add an interior for some of the filming. Given the stage of development that they are at for the Volt, it's highly unlikely that the engineers would turn over a fully working prototype to a film crew if for no other reason than they would have to support it. GM has said that they do not have representative hardware running in proper Volt chassis yet and won't for several more months.

That is really cool. I kinda wish the Volt logo was a little smaller. But I guess that's the GM way. Look at the ginormous H-Y-B-R-I-D badges on the 2-mode SUVs.

I just hope they don't make the Volt a bad guy. It would be like those creepy EV1 commercials back from the 90's. Just plain bad marketing. If anything GM should push to make the Volt the biggest bad@ss good guy in the next Transformers.

GM products are Autobots. Non-GM products like Barricade are Decepticons.

Unfortunately for GM, Barricade was the coolest car in the first movie, and it was a car people could actually buy at the time..

If that's the Volt, I'm getting one for sure. That looks sweet and kind of hatchbackish. I'm on the waiting list.
I just had a thought. If the car has a range of 40 miles on electric power with full charge, will GM recommend that you run the gas engine occasionally to keep it well-lubricated? If that's the case, one would have to intentionally undercharge it or not charge it for a while every now and then.

They may have to put a button for the driver to force the engine on so that it stays lubed and the gas doesn't go bad. Or they could do it electronically by having the engine turn on automatically from time to time, even if the battery is topped off.

Considering that the vehicle won't be sold until 2010 and it's currently 2008, I would have to say that whatever else it is, that is NOT a production Volt.

It might be the Volt shell, but the key is the battery system - which I would wager is NOT a LiION system; probably a shorter range NiMHy system.

I like the blacked out windows and the roof. From the top it looks like a Malibu Maxx. From the side, it looks like a Prius(which is fine).
If the price is right, it should sell no problem. `09 would be much better then 2010 though.

At least it isn't shaped like the Prius. +1

This is awesome! I seem to remember posting something about this a week ago,not news ,but that I wished the Volt could be a Transformer. I guess I got my wish!! I had to figure that someone at GM was saying "we've got to get it into this movie"! I'm feeling kind of dumb though cuz I was watching sneak video of the various vehicles on a movie site yesterday and didn't pick up on the fact the blue car was a Volt. I just noticed the Corvette. I also remember that the original movie the Camaro( the new one) was some type of preproduction vehicle and was worth $400,000 plus cuz at the time there were only 4 made . I remember that one of the actors was talking about how incredibly careful they were being with the car cuz it couldn't be replaced if anything happend to it. If you think back to the movie all the rough chase stuff with the Camaro was with the old school Camaro.
