Ethanol takes a stage at Republican National Convention
Not to be outdone by those Coors ethanol vehicles at the DNC, Republicans will get their own ethanol-dose during their national convention this week. On Tuesday night in the Twin Cities, the Minnesota Agri-Growth Council will host a "celebration" called AgNite (because you know that farmers are the first to ditch old school and correct spellings of words like night). The self-styled non-partisan AgNite will celibrate "America's food and agricultural industry with key policymakers, convention delegates, media, and top industry leaders" and will feature an ethanol angle thanks to the sponsorship of the Renewable Fuels Association. Ethanol promoters have a lot of work to do to get Republican delegates on the same page. The National Review's Corner says that the GOP's party platform recently voted against strong ethanol mandates, following strong discussion.

Good luck getting this party on alternatives and unstuck from oil since Big Oil is paying most of their campaign costs through their oil lobby, the American Petroleum Institute.
Lots of lip service on switching over to alternatives but no action by the Republicans.

It the government has to force it, it isn't much of an alternative.

Bob Dole was bought and paid for by Archer-Daniels-Midland and so are many of his cronies.
Ethanol is a farce. And the republicans are subsidizing it just as much as the dems.

"Bob Dole was bought and paid for by Archer-Daniels-Midland and so are many of his cronies."
Meanwhile the oil industry are a bunch of political novices and shrinking violets.

I missed that GOP deal w/ Coors, I laughed my ass off when the "excess corn mash" was goin to ethanol... not sure if that meant for drinking or for driving, or better yet both...
Well as long as these dumb politicians keep promoting corn we might as well as just keep drinking it rather than driving it...

Coors had the same deal with the DNC.

You'll have to wait until at least next week to continue your mindless conservative-bashing. The GOP convention has been curtailed until after Gustav has been dealt with.

Hurricaine Gustav is over, having neatly reminded everyone of the Bush Administrations greatest failure, and Hurricaine Liberman just blew through St. Paul, so the convention is back on track.
Hmm. they could really use some windmills, with all that blustering...

I relish the idea of quieter traffic crawling in EV mode. Cleaner air.
I echo the rest of you that more options should be on the table other than hybrid. Will hybrid be defined also as a straight EV?

I really, really hope that spelling celebrate as celibrate in "The self-styled non-partisan AgNite will celibrate America's food and agricultural industry..." after bashing farmers for misspelling is some sort of meta-ironic literary device. Cause it would suck if you were just a pot calling a tea kettle black. You pot.

So, according to most of you, ALL Republicans are for Big Oil and against the environment, just like all Democrats are against Big Oil and never pocket any money from them. How naive.
I am a Republican, and I'm all for clean energy and electric cars. I also don't believe there's such a thing as "Clean Coal", unlike what McCain and Obama are saying. We need to move away from dirty energy (oil and coal). And since most of the clean technologies are being pioneered and developed in the U.S., they will generate more jobs. For me, it's a win-win situation.
It would be nice if we get away from labels and fanaticism and start working together to get this accomplished.

I used to be Republican, until I realized that the party under Bush jr. no longer even pretended to represent me. If you aren't Rich, Rabid Rightwing, or Righteous Fundymentalist, there's no room for you in the Republican tent.

I was there. Questions?
