Cyclists: Range Rover drivers worst on the road

The Grill of a Land Rover... a British cyclists worst nightmare?
Who are the worst drivers on the road? Hmm, we can think of a few... like women who apply mascara while driving, teens sending texts while driving, and, of course, those who have had a few too many drinks. But, what about labeling drivers by the type or brand of cars that they drive? That is exactly what has taken place in Britain, as cyclists who share the roads with the cagers have taken a vote to determine the worst of the worst. The winner, uh, we mean losers? Range Rover drivers. While we don't see all that many on our roadways in the United States, the original British 'utes must really be clogging the streets in the U.K., riding right on the back tires of the pedalers. Also coming up on the short list of bad drivers are drivers of white vans (color matters?), followed by smug BMW drivers and elderly drivers who move too slowly, even for cyclists apparently. Comments?

Funny enough, I'm in the US and I nearly got run over on my way to work by a Range Rover. Idiot was coming to an intersection where they had a stop and I didn't and they were LOOKING AT THE FLOORBOARDS IN THE BACK SEAT!!!! Luckily I saw this catastrophe coming and stopped and watched them roll half way into traffic before they managed to stop. Too bad they didn't get plowed into by the 18-wheeler that also wasn't paying attention...

Maybe they shouldn't ride in street...hmm...

Jay you are a moron. Picture a bike going 25+ mph down a SIDEWALK...
Bikes have equal rights. SUV drivers have unequally small brains.

US worst drivers:
1. Volvo
2. Mercedes (non-AMG)
3. Toyota Prius
4. Any car with a stuffed animal in the rear window.
I live in LA so maybe it is different elsewhere.

+1 for animals on the front or rear dash.

nope you are not wrong. it's a perfect list for floirda as well. but i'd include..........
-full size suv's
-poser fast and furious cars like a sentra with a large exhaust, but no real tuning done.
-hemi dodge cars, not trucks
-poser harley riders, fake bikers(akak 6 figure salary types)...not the real kind.
-any chick car with a hula deal hanging on the rear view mirror or community college sticker.
-any car with some island or s. american nationality flag c.d., or tassly tacky flag hanging on the rear view mirror.
there are plenty of others, but on bmw's...only bad drivers i have seen are in the "bargin" 3 series e90's bimmers and the 6 & 7 series.

As a long time commuter averaging about 40,000 miles a year to New York City, I have to comment. Mini-van drivers are the absolute worst (though color doesn't really matter, I find the dark blue and that nasty maroon color the most annoying), as well as BMW drivers (no specification of the series). Mini-vans are like boogers- they clog up the road. They tend to drive super slow, and you can never get them to move out of the way. Conversly, BMWs believe that rules do not apply to them and are typically speeders/weavers on the highway. As for Range Rovers.... never noticed. They blend with the rest of us idiots.

Chrysler Intrepids seem to be driven by people who do not shoulder-check before changing lanes.
Whether that's because they appeal to the stiff-necked seniors set or because the large rear pillars make shoulder-checks useless, I've nearly been trashed by them so often that I automatically slow down when I see one.

In my observation, worst drivers are often seen in Toyota Corolla, especially female. SUV drivers too since those who buy that kind of vehicles without the need of off-road ability don't have much car/road senses.
I'm in Vancouver BC, Canada

Amen on Intrepid's. Had one, got rid of it because I couldn't see out of it. Rear window so tall, couldn't see behind me in parking lot. Slanted rear window wouldn't shed rain in town so parking lots were a very "exciting" place. I just didn't need that much additional excitement in my life.

personally i myself am scared of cyclists on the road, Somtimes you don't know what thay're going to do..turn left turn right, suddenly going in the middle of the road, its unpredictable.

I know I'll get vilified for this, but.... women. Seriously, I have had a lot of close calls riding my bike around, and probably at least 75% were women drivers.

I agree with you ron. Moms don't have an easy job, but when you see a them rumaging (sic?) around looking for a toy, bottle, or screaming at their kids (crazy Gen-Xers have little control over their kids)...they are dangerous at any speed in any car.
While I may be biased, women driving "real" Bimmers (not X3,X5,X6) are actually not bad. They actually drive too slow for my tastes.
NDB 11:02AM (9/04/2008)
I'm with you on that one, ron!!! I have too many do too many mistakes on the road to not agree. Oh and don't let them be driving a BMW, then they get worse.

I say there are equal amounts of bad male and female drivers. Women are notorious for their distractability, men should be noted for their impatience. How many times have I been in the slow lane and had a guy tailgating me so close he looked like he was in my back seat, then suddenly swerve to a new lane w/o checking for other cars?
Simon 2:30AM (9/04/2008)
I find cyclists a danger on the road. On several occasions I've had to slam on the brakes to avoid a car that is overtaking a cyclist and has veered onto my side of the road.
I also hate it when cyclists wobble into the middle of the road just at the point your about to overtake them.
I'd much prefer cyclists to have their own lanes or separate tracks away from the road.
For now I'll just continue to swear and shake my first at them >:)

I live in CA, Cab drivers are the most scariest ones. They just want to speed. For all you people who think that cyclist are dangerous. DMV says that cyclist have equal rights as the car drivers. They are responsible for any damages. So they can get into any lane they want to.
Christina 2:01PM (9/04/2008)
Prasad, I know that cyclists have the same rights as motorists, but what annoys me is that they don't have the same rules. I regurally have to slam on my brakes due to someone on a bike swerving into the middle of the road. There is no way to tell what they are planning to do next, and they never have to yeild to oncoming vehicles. Cyclists tend to ride where the please, and it's very difficult for someone traveling at 50 mph to slam on their brakes in order for someone traveling 5 mph to inch their way across the road.

where i live, cyclists do have their own lane. i was riding in it on my bike, going straight with the right of way, when an OLD man in a giant ford truck made a left turn, looking only for oncoming cars, and rammed right into me. crushed two vertibrae and kept me out of work for four months. as i was laying on a gurney in the emergency room hallway, unable to move, and barely concious from the pain, a short henderson cop was bent over me, SCREAMING at me, telling me I should have been watching for the other driver, and it was my fault. old people are the worst drivers, no matter what they are driving.
