VIDEO: While Top Gear waits, Fifth Gear runs Tesla at Goodwood

A couple of weeks ago we told you that Tesla was talking to the producers of Top Gear about having Jeremy Clarkson try out the Roadster. At the time Darryl Siry told us nothing had been finalized yet and we don't know if that has changed. What we do know is that the "other British car show," Fifth Gear, has already driven the Roadster. During the Goodwood Festival of Speed last July, Fifth Gear presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson strapped on a Roadster for the big hill climb event. Much like everyone else who has driven the Roadster, she was impressed with the immediate torque and the silent operation. I can't wait to see the Stig take this to the track. Check out the video after the jump. Thanks to Andy for the tip!

hahahahaha, he stalled it! hahaha...
The tesla is sexy! Good point about the noise though, it is hard to judge when you can't tell the speed your going. I think it might make sense to put a speaker or something to make artificial noise, so people can hear when your driving by as well... (for safety not for show)

I approuve you, this car will be more interresting and safe with a choice of several hundreds pre-recorded and downloadable sounds. It will take just a little bit of power out of the battery.

yeah if you can config the sound that's a true winner, nothing is more annoying than having a pedestrian walk in front of you while they are not looking at you, as a prius driver the only thing i can do is have my window down and blast my music, but when my family is in the car all i can do is just be super careful.

You should take your Prius into your local Toyota dealer and ask them to install the horn. It should be covered under warranty because it's supposed to be standard equipment.

Top Gear has already driven the Roadster. I think it was a preliminary drive, but it's on their website.

If you want to listen to the sound of the Tesla's electric motor, the trick is to NOT DRIVE IT WHILE WEARING A CRASH HELMET.
However, I appreciate that this less-than-ideal situation was Vicki's only chance to drive the car. Pity.
The idea of adding artificial engine sounds is pointless. No sufficiently light and compact sound system is going to be capable of accurately reproducing engine harmonics. It will only spoil the car.
Just let it go and embrace the new.
