Hummer still working the flex-fuel angle. Good luck with that

Considering the current state of the SUV market in the U.S., and specifically the horrendous sales figures of the Hummer brand, you could be forgiven for thinking that the General would pull any future developments off the table in view of its desire to rid itself of the money-losing marque. Apparently, that's not the case. Hummer will soldier on, offering new flex-fuel engines in all of its offerings. The smallest model, the H3, is scheduled to get an ethanol-capable V6 engine, most likely sometime next year for the 2010 model. The big-boy models, the H2 and H2 SUT, will be the first trucks to be endowed with E85 FlexPower V8 engines starting next month. Considering how dismal the fuel mileage of a Hummer H2 already is, and the fact that it is sure to go down while running on ethanol, expect mileage in the single digits. Europeans are likely to get a four-cylinder diesel engine option in the H3, though there is no word as of yet if it will come to the U.S. Lastly, we can't think of any good reason that GM wouldn't offer its new 4.5-liter Duramax in the large Hummers. In any case, we can't imagine that these new powerplants will help sales all that much, ethanol-capable or not.

I can see Hummer owners bragging about gas mileage.
My hummer can get 8 miles per gallon city!
Well, hah, mine can get 10! I win!
And then they promptly roll over the poor commuter in a fuel efficient vehicle. There's a GM commercial every Hummer driver can relate to.

The hummer brand has served its purpose. GM needs to let it die.

The Hummer was an iconic symbol of an era.
When iconic symbols go out of fashion they tend to lie low for a very long time. Kinda like Hippy waistcoats with bell bottom trousers.
I have an outfit in the cupboard. Still waiting for the fashion to come around again.

The number one complaint about the Hummer from Hummer owners was.....a drum role please....fuel mileage.
Goes to show how really truly dumb these owners are. That in itself is cause to truly despise these pricks who drive them.

It might not be such a bad angle. I would put money down that says Hummer sales are highest and most optimistic in Ethanol producing states. These owners might even be producing their own fuel.

There is only one thing dumber than the Hummer (hey, that rhymes!) and its fellow massive SUVs:
Ethanol.
Alcohol is for drinking, not driving.

This would have been a good one as a Series-Hybrid, but the
battery weight would have been so much that they'd only get
8 mpg anyway. All aluminum, Wankel Range-extender, hemp-for-plastic. I see possibilities. (LOL)

It's hard to believe that some are still reluctant to see the obvious: the gas guzzler vehicles era is over...

I only dislike the HUMMER brand because it serves no purpose other than status and bling. Their new pickup (can't remember if it's an H2 or H3, and not the H2 SUT) is a step in the right direction - but when I can get a RAM/F150/Silverado for tens of thousands less - which are just as luxurious in some trims - what's the point.
I'm one of those rare people who actually NEEDS a pickup truck. That's why the Silverado's and RAM's with 2Mode Hybrid systems are looking extra appealing right now.

The more E85 vehicles the better. It will expose more and more people on what junk E85 is. My flex-fuel Dodge Caravan has used one tank of E85, that was enough proof for me on how bad it is.

Most people that drive Hummers don't care what fuel costs. They just like the attention they get by driving one.
On the other hand, a flex fuel engine will allow them to claim sensitivity to the enviornmental issue, which is also fashionable.
That's the big thing, being noticed and being PC.
