Honda this week launched its first blog in conjunction with the debut of the new Insight concept in Paris. If Honda's usual practice and the spy photos we've seen are any indication, the concept Insight that is on the show stand right now will be almost identical to the production model coming next spring. While the Insight's profile undoubtedly shares a lot with the Toyota Prius, it also differs in many design details. The Insight has more surface development than the Prius including the belt-line and rocker panel creases that help catch the light and make the look more interesting. The Insight also has a less distinct peak in the roof than the Toyota giving a sleaker look to the green house. The primary elements that are likely to change in going to production are the lights with the concepts fancy clusters giving way to something a little more conventional. Looks a lot less Priusy then I thought. Then again we haven't seen the new Prius yet.

Geez...it has the same roof line, near identical rear end, same window shapes....what else? The front looks different....whoopdee...
Besides the fact that it's a green car...how green is the CAR itself? Materials? paint? Processes?

Aside from the roof line which is not exactly the same, it's different in every respect except one. The insight, like the Prius is further from being a green car than a 1970s American muscle boat. It's all about image.

I just wish that it had taken a little bit more than the name from the old Insight. Wheel skirts would have been nice, as would a more closed-type grill.
Oh well, if they price it right and it gets decent enough FE from the EPA testing battery, then they should do quite well. Mixed 50s sold at around $18k would make these babies move in a flash.

That's my next car. I just wish it came out sooner, mid '09 is a long time to wait when you drive something that's about to break down.

We're picking up a new Fit in a week, but we've also already got a reserve on an Insight.
I almost bought one of the first gen Insights way back when. To think I'd be able to sell it for just a couple grand less than MSRP today... doh!
