Enter the Rumormill: C-Cactus moving to production

Ah, la jolie deuche, as the French call the Citroën 2CV. The 2CV is the iconic model that inspired last year's Citroën C-Cactus concept car, a concept that featured interesting solutions such cutting the number of pieces needed to build the dashboard in half, as well as all-electric or hybrid powertrains. Yes, concept cars are very interesting, but sometimes they have a long way to run before they can be found at showrooms. However, in this case, Gilles Michel, Citroën CEO said that the C-Cactus, which he nicknamed the 21st Century 2CV, could be on sale in three or four years' time. The new concept shown at Paris Motor Show had an all-electric powertrain fed by lithium-ion batteries good for 150 km (90 miles) range and a maximum speed of 110 km/h (75mph). However, the C-Cactus could also spot a hybrid powertrain. Mating the upcoming new 3-cylinder 70 to 100hp gasoline engines to an electric motor, these cars could get the HyMotion2 label, like the HyMotion4 just introduced in Paris. We hope to hear from them soon.

We know the C Cactus and we have recently seen the C3 Picasso Microvan moving into production. The normal C3 is soon to be replaced -- it is in production now for seven years. So it is very likely that many details and styling clues of the C Cactus will find it's way into the next production version of the C3.
