Al Gore being chauffeured in Holland in GTL fueled Audi A6 2.0 TDIe

Former Veep Al Gore is in the Netherlands this week to give his Inconvenient Truth presentation a couple of times. While he's in the low-lands he is apparently being shuttled around in the latest example of fuel efficient executive transport from the folks at Audi. Mr. Gore gets to ride in the back seat of a new Audi A6 TDIe. This particular A6 variant gets propulsion from the same 2.0L diesel four cylinder used in the new VW Jetta TDI. In the A6 TDIe it's rated at 136 hp and achieves 44.38 mpg (US) on the EU test cycle. For this particular event the A6 was also being fueled with GTL from Shell. GTL is produced from natural gas and helps reduce both soot and NOx emissions although it more expensive than regular diesel fuel. Thanks to Sander for the tip!

but it sure doesn't reduce CO2 emissions. Bit weird to see Al Gore backing this GTL-crap. Next thing you know, he'll be backing CTL.

Nothing in this report indicates that Al Gore is 'backing' GTL.

This car is not Dutch but German and is registered in Audis hometown Ingolstadt. Audi must have set this one up especially to show their (so far lacking and not alleged) green credentials. Probably did not even tell Al what it was running on... Makes good publicity though and then that is just about enough for them.

Couldn't find an M1A1 Abrams over there eh? Oh well he'll make up for it by installing after burners on his Gulf Stream.

Al doesn't really care folks. He's trying to process his lost presidential run by compensating as an e-hero. Fact remains he flies private, rides in limos, owns an 18 room mansion and his electric bill is 20 times a typical homeowner.
Oh, and his predictions for sea-level rise are ten times IPCC's latest assessment.

why not the LS2LS7? 3:21AM (10/16/2008)
20 room mansion.
But the electric bill thingy was before he installed some solar panels and made other changes to improve the efficiency there at the house. Also, something like 15% of the amount he pays was because he pays more per KWh than other people because he signed up for green power at a premium price.
I'm guessing his electric bill is still rather substantial though.
Anyway, if you watched his movie it's about how we all don't have to live in caves in order to save the environment.
I have to admit I don't understand any of the sea level rise predictions at all. Not Gore's or other ones.

File that under "So what?" Got the picture of the Audi but you won't get the picture of him boarding his private Gulfstream. Sorry, but my problem with Gore is that he makes demands on others but doesn't lead by example. His "carbon footprint" is more of an "carbon assprint".
Even though I don't agree with him much, Ed Begley Jr. is respectable in that he lives what he preaches. At this time, I don't see the many advantages to spending a lot of money to live my life like a college student. But with him not being preachy about it, I'm more willing to listen to his ideas.
